On the occasion of the beginning of the Canh Ty Spring 2020, commemorating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2020), on the morning of February 2, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, the Politburo held a meeting with former senior leaders of the Party and State.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong chaired the Conference.

Attending the Conference were former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former Presidents Tran Duc Luong and Nguyen Minh Triet; Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; former National Assembly Chairmen Nguyen Van An and Nguyen Sinh Hung; leaders and former leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front; members of the Politburo, Secretaries of the Party Central Committee; former members of the Politburo, former Secretaries of the Party Central Committee; former members of the Party Central Committee, former Ministers and equivalent positions through the periods.

On behalf of the Politburo, Politburo member and Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong presented a report on the socio-economic situation, national defense and security, foreign affairs, Party building, political system building, the fight against corruption and negativity... highlighting the achievements and lessons learned after 4 years of implementing the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress.

Former senior leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front spoke and contributed many dedicated and responsible opinions on the work of Party building, building a socialist rule-of-law State, continuing to resolutely and synchronously streamline the apparatus, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the operations of agencies in the political system; strengthen measures to control power, prevent corruption, negativity and waste; unite and rally the people, mobilize all resources to continue to develop the country quickly and sustainably.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his pleasure at attending the intimate meeting and exchange in the exciting atmosphere of the first days of the new spring, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam; acknowledged and thanked the dedicated and responsible contributions of former Party and State leaders to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

Regarding the country's situation and the achievements and results in various fields in recent times, the General Secretary and President said that it is the inheritance and promotion of the achievements of more than 30 years of carrying out the country's renovation under the Party's leadership, promoting the spirit of solidarity and unity within the entire Party, people and army.

With all the modesty of a revolutionary, it can be said that Vietnam has never had the foundation, potential, prestige and position as it does today. The country is peaceful and unified, its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity are maintained. The population increased from more than 22 million people in 1945 after the August Revolution succeeded, to nearly 48 million people in 1975 after the country was completely unified, more than 61 million people in 1986 when the country began the renovation process and is currently about 96 million people.

Vietnam is no longer a weak country, but has risen to develop continuously, has diplomatic relations with most countries in the world, and participates in most international organizations. Per capita income has increased from a few dozen USD to about 2,800 USD/person/year. Although the economy is not yet "well-off", at least there is no hunger, people's lives are much different from before, regions in the country have changed, Vietnam's reputation in the international arena is increasing... Those achievements further encourage the national will to rise even stronger; international friends admire, respect and wish to learn from Vietnam's experience.

The General Secretary and President emphasized that the first lesson is the lesson of solidarity and unity, the entire political system, the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army are united... Those are not empty words. This was the third time the General Secretary and President attended the National Online Conference of the Government with localities; every month, key leaders meet to discuss and unify work; then there is close coordination between the four central offices to review what has been done, what has not been done, existing problems and solutions... Therefore, everything went smoothly, smoothly, giving each other sincere advice in the spirit of comradeship.

Recalling Uncle Ho's advice: "Unity, unity, great unity/Success, success, great success," the General Secretary and President emphasized the need to continue to inherit the career of our ancestors, inherit the achievements and experiences of previous generations, and further promote the lesson of solidarity.

However, the General Secretary and President made it clear that in addition to achievements, causes and lessons learned, it is necessary to clearly recognize limitations and weaknesses to overcome them, not to be subjective and willful, and not to rest on laurels.

In 2020, the country will have many important events. The General Secretary and President hopes that former Party and State leaders with their qualifications, intelligence and rich practical experience will continue to contribute their enthusiastic and responsible opinions for the common cause of the Party and the nation, contributing to building a strategic development path for the country, towards the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding, the 100th anniversary of the country's founding, and envisioning what Vietnam will be like at that time. The documents of this Congress must have something new compared to the previous Congress in terms of viewpoints, guidelines, and guiding ideology... What is new compared to the previous Congress on the issues of people, culture, management, and building a legal system...? Must be based on the dialectical materialist method, avoiding jumping from one extreme to another.

The General Secretary and President pointed out that a very important issue in the coming time is personnel work, this is a decisive issue, the main policy is made by people. However, the way of doing things and methods must be standard, ensuring efficiency, solidarity, promoting the collective role, choosing a collective that is coherent and harmonious, putting the interests of the nation, the people, the revolutionary cause of the Party and the people above all else.

"With pure motives, we are descendants of Uncle Ho, this Party is the Communist Party of Vietnam, this nation is the Vietnamese nation, this country will definitely rise up to stand shoulder to shoulder with friends from other countries in the world" - General Secretary and President emphasized.

The General Secretary and President wished former Party and State leaders and their families good health, happiness, and success in the new year, and that together with the entire Party and people, they will move forward even more strongly.

Earlier, on the morning of February 2, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong came to burn incense in memory of President Ho Chi Minh at House 67 in the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace, where he lived the last years of his life.

Here, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong lit incense sticks, respectfully remembering the genius leader, founder and trainer of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the beloved father of the Vietnamese people.
