The National Intelligence Agency met with the House Intelligence Committee last week, chaired by Congressman Adam Schiff, and provided information about Russia’s plans to interfere in both the Democratic primary and the November 3, 2020 US presidential election with the aim of re-electing Donald Trump.
At the meeting, lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties asked intelligence agencies to provide evidence to prove Russia's efforts to interfere in the US election.
According to the New York Times, Donald Trump was very angry with the acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire for "giving the green light" for this meeting to take place. Mr. Trump believes that the Democratic Party can use the information in the meeting to disadvantage him in the upcoming presidential election. Mr. Donald Trump announced that he would replace the acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire with a close ally, the US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell.
In response to President Donald Trump's reaction, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on lawmakers to condemn Trump's actions, calling them an attempt to discredit the intelligence community.
