(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, the Vietnam Football Federation has just announced that the AFC has not sent any notice to its member federations about adjusting the plan to organize matches within the framework of the 2020 World Cup qualifiers in Asia, which will take place next March.

The complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic in many countries around the world have greatly affected all activities, including sports competitions. Recently, the Italian government announced the postponement of 3 matches of the national football championship (Serie A) taking place today, February 28. The reason is due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in this country.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the AFC has also decided to postpone 6 matches in the third round of the AFC Champions League in the East Asia and West Asia regions. In addition, the AFC has also decided to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Olympic play-off match between the Korean Women's Team and the Chinese Women's Team to an appropriate time in April.

FIFA and AFC tournaments are no exception as many matches have been postponed or rescheduled. However, up to now, AFC has not sent any notice to its member associations about adjusting the schedule for matches in the 2020 World Cup qualifiers in Asia, which will take place next March.

According to information from the AFC, early next week the AFC will hold an emergency meeting with representatives of the East Asian and West Asian National Football Federations to assess the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on the plan to organize matches in the coming time.

The East Asia Regional Meeting will take place on 2 March and the West Asia Regional Meeting will be held on 7-8 March 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The AFC has also been working closely with FIFA to assess the potential impact that could affect the 2022 World Cup Asian Qualifiers taking place in March.

VFF General Secretary Le Hoai Anh said that the VFF, as well as all other national football federations, will comply with the decisions of FIFA and AFC if there are any changes to the match schedule.

As for the Vietnamese team, the preparation plan for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers is still going on as planned. The team will gather again on March 21 and will have an international friendly match with the Kyrgyzstan team on March 26 in Binh Duong. After this match, Coach Park Hang-seo and his team will travel to Malaysia to compete with the host country's team, taking place at Bukit Jalil Stadium on March 31.

Speaking on the AFC website, AFC General Secretary Dato' Windsor John said: “These are unprecedented challenging times, but the AFC remains very closely monitoring the situation, including travel restrictions, and liaising with member associations, leagues and clubs.

We are delighted with the support of organisations, including commercial and broadcast partners, representatives and do our utmost to ensure the safety and health of players, officials and spectators, while ensuring the integrity of the tournaments.”
