Arrest of girl using fake Facebook to scam money in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) - Lu Thi Yen, residing in Quy Hop district, used the fake Facebook Hoang Thuy Dung to go online to recruit online sales collaborators and then commit fraud.

According to information from Anh Son District Police, the unit has just arrested Lu Thi Yen, born in 2003, residing in Soi village, Yen Hop commune, Quy Hop district, for committing fraud and appropriating property via Facebook, with the amount of 8,500,000 VND.

On March 1, 2020, the Criminal Police - Economic - Drug Team (Anh Son District Police) received a report from Dang Thi Kim Cuc, born in 2005, residing in Nhan Tai village, Cam Son commune, Anh Son district with the following content: Through Facebook, Cuc accepted to work as a sales collaborator for a woman with Facebook name Hoang Thuy Dung.

After the discussion, Cuc ordered a number of goods including 04 boxes of masks, some charging cables, phone accessories and belts for a total of 8,500,000 VND. After placing the order, the woman asked Cuc to transfer the above amount via Bank plus service and then deliver the goods. However, after Cuc transferred the money, the goods did not arrive. When Cuc contacted her again, that person had cut off contact.

Immediately after receiving the report, Anh Son District Police quickly deployed forces to verify and clarify the above incident. Through initial verification, the phone number and Facebook used by the subject were fake Facebook and junk SIM cards. However, through professional measures and a determined spirit of fighting crime, on March 3, 2020, the investigation agency identified the subject who committed fraud and property appropriation as Lu Thi Yen, born April 12, 2003, residing in Soi village, Yen Hop commune, Quy Hop district.

At the police station, Lu Thi Yen confessed to using the fake Facebook name Hoang Thuy Dung to recruit online sales collaborators on social networks. After recruiting collaborators, she would ask collaborators to transfer money via Viettel's Bank plus money transfer service.

When receiving money, the subject will not send the goods to the sender but will block Facebook and phone number.

Currently, Anh Son District Police have seized the amount of VND 8,500,000 and are consolidating the case file to handle the case according to the provisions of law.
