Vietnam reports 5 new Covid-19 cases, all of whom are Vietnamese citizens.
As of 7 PM on March 17, 2020, Vietnam reported 5 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases to 66.
On March 17, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology announced that two more patients had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Specifically, case number 62 (Patient 62) is an 18-year-old male patient residing in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi. The patient is a student returning to Vietnam from the UK on a Vietnam Airlines flight on March 16, 2020, landing at Van Don Airport (Quang Ninh).
The Quang Ninh Center for Disease Control conducted screening tests on passengers, and the results showed this patient tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The patient and those in close contact were taken to the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, and samples were sent to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for further testing, which confirmed a positive result for SARS-CoV-2. Currently, the patient is isolated at the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital and is in stable condition.
Case number 63 (Patient 63) is a 20-year-old female patient residing at C2 Mandarin Garden apartment building, Hoang Minh Giam Street, Trung Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi.
The patient is a student studying in the UK who entered Vietnam through Noi Bai Airport on March 15, 2020, on flight TG564. The Hanoi Center for Disease Control conducted a screening test, which yielded a positive result for SARS-CoV-2.
The patient and those in close contact were taken to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh, and samples were sent to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, where test results confirmed they were positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Currently, the patient is being isolated at the National Tropical Diseases Hospital, Dong Anh facility, and their health condition is stable.
Meanwhile,According to a report from the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, on March 17, 2020, three patients tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, specifically as follows:

Patient 64, a 36-year-old female residing in Ward 2, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, has a history of Hepatitis B. She traveled with her boyfriend from Switzerland to Dubai and then returned to Vietnam on March 12, 2020, on flight EK392 from Switzerland, transiting through Dubai to Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Her boyfriend traveled to Hong Kong, China. On March 16, the patient was taken to a centralized quarantine facility in District 8.
Currently, the patient is isolated at the Cu Chi Field Hospital and is in stable condition with no symptoms. The Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases tested positive on the morning of March 17th, and the sample was sent to the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City for confirmatory testing, which also returned a positive result for SARS-CoV-2.
Patient No. 65 (BN 65) is a 28-year-old female residing in Ward 7, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City. She works at TOTO Vietnam Co., Ltd. at 1A Pham Ngoc Thach Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1. She has no prior health issues. She had contact with and worked with patients No. 45 and 48 on March 7th and 10th. On March 10th, she felt unwell and took the morning off work. On the afternoon of March 11th, the company ceased operations, and she self-isolated at home. On March 13th, she was taken to a centralized quarantine facility in District 8 and tested. Currently, she shows no signs of fever, cough, or shortness of breath and has been transferred to the Cu Chi Field Hospital for isolation.
The Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases tested positive on the morning of March 17th. The sample was then sent to the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City for confirmatory testing, and the result was also positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Case number 66 (Patient 66) is a 21-year-old female patient residing at Park View Apartment, 107 Nguyen Duc Canh Street, Phu My Hung, District 7.On March 14th, the patient traveled from the United States (Pennsylvania - Philadelphia) to Toronto, Canada, and transited in Taiwan, arriving in Vietnam on March 16th on flight BR 395, seat 6G (of Eva Air). Upon entering Vietnam, the patient showed no symptoms and was tested on the same day. The sample was confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 by the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City.
