Hackers take advantage of Covid-19 pandemic to launch attack campaigns
The Ministry of Public Security warned that hackers have spread malware via emails with attached word files "Chi Thi cua Thu Tuong Nguyen Xuan Phuc.lnk" to steal data.
Some hacker groups have taken advantage of this situation to launch targeted cyber attacks on agencies and organizations around the world, including Vietnam, the Ministry of Public Security announced on March 19.

According to the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, hackers spread malware via emails with attached Word files titled "Chi Thi cua Thu tuong nguyen xuan phuc.lnk" disguised as the Prime Minister's directive notice on the Covid-19 epidemic.
The file is a shortcut (an icon containing the quickest path to a folder on the home screen) with the extension ".lnk" disguised as a text file icon to trick users.
If the user downloads the attachment and opens it on the computer (this malware only works on Windows operating system), the malware will be activated, installed on the computer, connect to the control server to download other malware and receive hacker's control commands, and at the same time, open a text file to trick the user.
Once they gain control of the server, hackers can execute many different commands, such as stealing data and computer information, and using it to continue spreading to other computers...
The Ministry of Public Security recommends that Internet users do not access strange links, download and open files of unknown origin. If you have opened an attachment, you need to disconnect from the Internet and contact the administrator to fix and handle the problem.
