The first doctor in Vietnam was cross-infected with Covid-19

A doctor at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases was confirmed positive for nCoV, the first medical worker in Vietnam to be cross-infected, on the morning of March 23.

This doctor, along with two other cases recorded by the Ministry of Health as infected with nCoV this morning, brings the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam to 116.

Recognized Doctor"Patient 116", male, 29 years old, working at the Emergency Department, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Branch 2, Dong Anh. The doctor has participated in the fight against the epidemic since January 31 with the following tasks: Screening suspected patients coming to the hospital, treating patients diagnosed with the virus, and providing emergency care to some seriously ill patients.

During work, doctors are provided with full personal protective equipment. After work, doctors rest and live in the isolation area for medical staff in the hospital.

On March 19, the male doctor had symptoms of a sore throat. On March 20, he had additional symptoms of cough, muscle aches, and fever. The next day, the doctor isolated himself in the buffer zone of the Emergency Department. The test results at the hospital were positive for nCoV and the sample was sent to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Medical staff who worked with the male doctor have been placed under surveillance. The first test on March 21 showed that all of these staff were negative for nCoV. Currently, the patient is isolated and treated at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Dong Anh branch, and his health condition is stable.

The remaining two cases include:

"Patient 114", male, 19 years old, in Hoang Mai, Hanoi. The patient is a Vietnamese student studying in the Netherlands who returned to Vietnam on March 15 on flight SQ176 (transit in Singapore). The screening test result upon entry was negative and he was quarantined in Son Tay. On March 19, the patient had a fever of 38 degrees Celsius and a sore throat and was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, branch 2, for further quarantine. The screening test result on March 21 at the hospital was positive for nCoV. The sample sent to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology also gave similar results. Currently, his health condition is stable.

"Patient 115", female, 44 years old living in the Czech Republic. The patient is the daughter of "patient 94", one of 5 people from the same family returning to Vietnam from the Czech Republic on flight SU290. The patient returned to the country via Noi Bai airport on March 18 on the same flight (SU290, seat 28C) as her mother. The screening test results of the Hanoi Center for Disease Control recorded that this patient tested negative on March 18 and the patient was transferred to the centralized quarantine area of ​​Bac Giang province with her mother. On March 20, the patient was transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, branch 2, and a screening sample was taken with a positive result. The sample sent to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology also gave similar results. Currently, her health condition is stable.
