(Baonghean.vn) - The image of an old woman walking in the rain to the commune People's Committee carrying a stack of small change, counting 198,000 VND to support the Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control fund moved many people.

In the office of the Fatherland Front Committee of Do Luong town around noon on April 6, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, currently Vice Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of the town, could not help but be moved when recounting the story of Mrs. Tran Thi Luong, 90 years old this year, in block 5, who came to support 198 thousand VND to contribute to the Covid-19 prevention and control fund.

Ms. Hien said, on the morning of April 4, it was pouring rain, I was sitting in the lobby of the office at the table collecting money to support the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Fund, suddenly I saw an old lady limping over, she asked: "May I ask where to donate money for Covid-19, my child?". I replied: "Yes, here". Then she said: "I have been planning to go for a few days, but today I can go. This is the money I save in a piggy bank every day". She added: "The Vietnamese government is really good. The doctors are also good. I am very touched so I donate this money".

Then he took out a stack of change, counted 198 thousand dong, of which there were 164 1 thousand dong bills, the remaining were 17 2 thousand dong bills.

Counting each of his bills, we were deeply moved by his kindness - Ms. Hien added.

Following the winding roads, past the flood-prevention dike, Mrs. Tran Thi Luong's house is near the Lam River. She said that when she was young, she worked as a brick and cement worker at Tien Phong Cooperative, Do Luong town. After the Cooperative was dissolved, her family of 6 children had to carry their burdens to do petty trading everywhere. She also walked to distant markets in Yen Thanh district such as: Roc market, Bong market, Dinh market, Gam market... to earn every penny to raise her children.

The old lady has 6 children, 3 of whom have passed away. She currently lives with her daughter-in-law. In front of her porch, there is a small cabinet, which sells some candies, soft drinks, cooking oil, fish sauce, etc. She said: “I sell for fun, to clear my mind…”

Returning to the story of the old lady donating money to support the prevention and fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, she gently said: "It's a small thing, no big deal, I have nearly 200 thousand VND to support, as Vietnamese people, when we are happy, we are happy together, when we are miserable, we are miserable together".

In the small hamlet by the river, everyone loves Mr. Luong. He always contributes fully to the hamlet's support campaigns - Ms. Tran Thi Hao, Head of the Front Committee of Hamlet 5 added.
