The traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year of the Khmer people in 2020 takes place from April 13 to 16.

On the occasion of the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2020 of the Khmer people, on April 10, 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent a letter of congratulations to all Khmer people, comrades, monks and overseas Vietnamese.

The content of the Prime Minister's letter is as follows:

Dear compatriots, comrades, monks and overseas Khmer people.
The traditional Chol Chnam Thmay festival has a special meaning, the Khmer people welcome the new year, grow older, have more hope and believe in luck and goodness. On the occasion of this year's Chol Chnam Thmay festival, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, I would like to send my warmest regards and best wishes to my fellow countrymen, comrades, monks and Khmer expatriates.

Over the past years, with the efforts of the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people, our country has continued to achieve important achievements in all fields: high economic growth; many advances in culture and society; people's lives have been constantly improved; environmental protection, natural disaster and epidemic prevention have been effectively implemented; national defense, security, social order and safety have been maintained; foreign affairs activities have been promoted; our country's role and position in the international arena have been increasingly enhanced. These great achievements are the common merit of the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army, including the important contributions of the Khmer ethnic people.

This year's Chol Chnam Thmay is very special, not only because 2020 is the year of many important events of the country such as the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 130th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the year of the organization of the 2nd National Congress of Ethnic Minorities of Vietnam... but also because this year's Chol Chnam Thmay comes at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is complicated, the whole country is implementing measures to fight the epidemic, protect the health and lives of the people, and protect the safety of the whole community. This year's Chol Chnam Thmay will still be full of meaning and belief in luck and goodness, but will be more peaceful with compatriots, comrades, and monks all implementing the requirements of social distancing.

The COVID-19 pandemic challenges us all, but I believe that we will join hands and unite to soon push back and defeat the epidemic. I also believe that our compatriots, comrades, monks and Khmer ethnic people will continue to promote the tradition of patriotism, solidarity, actively study and work, constantly strive to achieve even greater achievements, together with the whole country to successfully implement the set socio-economic development goals and tasks.

Wishing our compatriots, comrades, monks and overseas Khmer people a safe, joyful and happy traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2020!
