On the afternoon of May 3, the Ministry of Health announced 1 case of Covid-19 infection, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 271.

Patient 271 was announced this afternoon as a British oil and gas expert who was quarantined immediately after entering the country.

Patient 271 is a 37-year-old male British national who is an expert of the Oil and Gas Group and entered the country to carry out an economic project.

On April 28, the patient flew from the UK to Tan Son Nhat airport on private flight number AXY 2504 (not a commercial passenger flight).

Accompanying the patient were 12 other experts, all of whom were managed and quarantined immediately after entering the country in Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City, so they did not spread to the community.

The first test on April 28 of all 13 people was negative. On May 2, the group of experts was tested a second time, of which 12 people had negative results, except for the above patient who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Patient 271 is currently being isolated and treated at Cu Chi Field Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City.

Thus, after 9 days without new infections and 17 days without community transmission, Vietnam has just recorded a new case of Covid-19.

The two most recent Covid-19 cases announced on April 24 were two international students returning from Japan. These two cases were quarantined immediately upon returning home.

To date, the country has had 271 cases of Covid-19, including 164 cases returning from abroad (131 cases were quarantined upon entry), and 107 cases of community infection.

Currently, 219 patients nationwide have recovered from the disease, the remaining 52 patients are being treated at medical facilities, including 14 cases of re-infection.

Among the patients being treated, 23 people returned from abroad and currently 9 people have tested negative twice or more.
