President Putin awards Victory Medal to Chairman Kim Jong-un

Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a commemorative victory medal in reference to the Soviet soldier.

The Russian Embassy in Pyongyang said today that on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the war,Great Patriotic War1941-1945, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the Victory Commemorative Medal to North Korean President Kim Jong-un for his great contributions to preserving the memory of the Soviet soldier who died in 1945 while liberating Korea.

The medal was presented by the Russian Ambassador toChosenAlexander Matsegora solemnly presented it to North Korean Foreign Minister Lee Song Gwon at the Great Hall of the People (Mansudae) in Pyongyang today.

After the ceremony, the Russian Ambassador and the North Korean Foreign Minister affirmed their commitment to continue implementing the agreements reached by the two countries' leaders in Vladivostok in April 2019, aiming to further develop and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Last year, Russian President Putin invited Chairman Kim to visit Moscow on May 9 and attend the military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Korean War. However, President Vladimir Putin decided to postpone the event last month due to concerns about the rapid spread of Covid-19.

Previously, in 2015, the North Korean leader was unable to attend due to having to deal with domestic issues.
