New BC15 rice variety, Thai Xuyen 111 has outstanding yield
(Baonghean) - Many rice varieties supplied and tested by Thai Binh Seed Corporation (ThaiBinh Seed) have been highly appreciated by Nghe An's agricultural sector. Especially the two main varieties, the new BC15 variety and Thai Xuyen 111, have outstanding yields this spring crop, bringing high economic value to farmers.
BC15 is highly effective against rice blast.
Recently, on May 8, Thai Binh Seed Corporation in coordination with related units conducted a field evaluation of the BC15 demonstration model with blast resistance genes on the land of Dien Thai commune (Dien Chau).
With the new BC15 variety, this winter-spring crop is the first time Dien Thai commune has applied it, initially recording positive results. The demonstration model has a scale of 1.2 hectares, sown from December 30, harvested after 132 days. This crop has not been very favorable weather, but thanks to proactive planning, always closely following disease developments, and above all thanks to "possessing" the effective disease resistance properties of the new variety, the situation is always under control. According to the assessment, the new BC15 variety will give outstanding productivity.

Mr. Cao Van Huyen - Director of Dien Thai Agricultural Service Cooperative shared: "The new BC15 rice variety, with blast resistance genes, has many advantages, production and care are easier than in previous years. Last year, when producing other rice varieties, when the rice was 35 - 50 days old, farmers had to go to the field and spray blast pesticides. This year, when producing the new BC15 rice variety, with blast resistance genes, farmers have not sprayed pesticides once, but the rice still grows well and is disease-free."

Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection said: BC15 is a rice variety that is highly appreciated by Nghe An's agricultural sector for its productivity, quality, and ability to be cultivated in both seasons. Therefore, in previous years, this variety has been used by many people for cultivation.
However, BC15 has an inherent disadvantage of being susceptible to rice blast (level 7-9), so when the weather is unfavorable, its productivity and yield are greatly affected. By 2017, the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants had successfully implanted the rice blast resistance gene (pita) into the BC15 rice variety to overcome the above disadvantage, then deployed experimental planting in many localities across the country.
In Nghe An alone, the new BC15 variety has been put into demonstration planting since 2019. In 2020, the BC15 variety continued to be planted on 75 hectares in Nghe An. Through field evaluation, this rice variety achieved high yield, delicious rice quality, and high economic value. After affirming its "position", the new BC15 variety is planned to replace tens of thousands of hectares of other rice varieties in Nghe An.
Thai Xuyen 111 rice crop is bumper
In addition, Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety has been planted in Nghe An for many consecutive years and has had a good harvest. Mr. Ho Van Mai - Head of Quynh Hau Agricultural Service Cooperative (Quynh Luu) happily shared: In the spring crop of 2020, Quynh Hau commune planted 380/400 hectares of Thai Xuyen 111 variety, with an expected yield of 7.5 tons/ha.
This is a hybrid rice variety with high yield and delicious rice quality, ranking first among current hybrid rice varieties. The rice is especially soft, sticky, rich, and has a light aroma, so it is favored by traders and purchased at a high price equivalent to pure rice.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nam - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said: Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety in Quynh Luu is still at the top of the list. This spring crop, Quynh Luu planted 7,000/7,600 hectares of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety, mainly supplied by ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company.
For many consecutive years, this rice variety has had a good harvest, this year it is expected to reach 7.4 - 7.5 tons/ha. The advantages of this rice variety are strong plants, strong and concentrated tillering, large flowers, high effective flower rate, high yield, resistance to blast disease, mild bacterial leaf blight, good rice quality, so it is especially trusted by Quynh Luu people.
The hybrid rice variety Thai Xuyen 111 has been officially recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. With the factors of productivity, quality and good disease resistance of Thai Xuyen 111, this variety has dominated the Nghe An market for many years. In the spring crop of 2020 alone, the whole province planted over 20,000 hectares of Thai Xuyen 111 variety.
