(Baonghean.vn) - In recent days, the price of live pigs in Nghe An has skyrocketed, reaching 98,000 VND - 105,000 VND/kg. The high price of live pigs has pushed the price of finished meat products in traditional markets and clean food stores to record levels.

Compared to early April, the price of live pigs has suddenly increased in recent days, from 75,000 VND to 98,000 VND/kg - 105,000 VND/kg. Ms. Phan Thi Mui, a pork trader at Sa Nam market (Nam Dan) said: “The price of live pigs increases every day, now reaching 90, up to 95, and now it is approximately 100,000 VND/kg. Even though it is so expensive, I still cannot find pigs to buy, I have to search all the communes in the district, and find a household with 2-3 pigs for sale, I have to pay a deposit in advance.

The increase in live hog prices has also led to an increase in pork prices at traditional markets in recent days. According to a survey at some traditional markets such as Vinh Tan, Quan Lau, Quang Trung (Vinh City), Sa Nam, Sen (Nam Dan), Dung (Thanh Chuong), Quan Hanh (Nghi Loc), Giat (Quynh Luu)... pork prices are very high. Specifically, pork belly and ribs cost 190,000 VND/kg, lean pork loin costs 180,000 - 190,000 VND/kg... At supermarkets, pork prices are high, from 180,000 - 250,000 VND/kg (depending on the type).

“The import price is high, so the selling price is high. Pigs bought at the farm are already 100,000 VND/kg, plus transportation, slaughter, quarantine fees... so the price of hogs has increased to 145,000 VND/kg, so the price of finished meat in the markets is reasonable now. If before, you could buy as much as you wanted, after the pandemic, the supply is scarce, the price of pigs increases every day, so companies and farms only sell "drop by drop", not selling in bulk like before, making it very difficult for traders to find pigs to slaughter and supply meat to the market", said Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhi, owner of a slaughterhouse in Vinh market.

According to some traders in Nghe An, there are currently no pigs available among the people, so they have to buy them through some businesses, but the price difference is more than ten thousand VND/kg. Therefore, traders have to buy live pigs imported from Laos to sell to customers.

According to many traders, due to the skyrocketing price of pork, which fluctuates daily, many large companies and farms have closed down, not selling pigs or selling in moderation to wait for prices to rise. This has caused the Nghe An live pig market to fluctuate in a negative direction, creating "price fever" and "price inflation". It is necessary for relevant levels and sectors to intervene to avoid speculation and profiteering, and stabilize pork prices./.
