(Baonghean.vn) - Continuing the enforcement of monitoring activities against illegal fishing activities along the coast, on May 26, the province's interdisciplinary inspection team conducted inspections in the coastal waters of Dien Chau and Nghi Loc districts.

At noon on May 26, while patrolling and monitoring, the interdisciplinary team discovered a pair of boats (with license plate NA-2024-TS of fisherman Nguyen Van Tan and license plate NA-2668-TS of fisherman Vu Van Manh, both residing in Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Chau district) ranging from 12 to under 15 meters long, but fishing by trawling in coastal waters.

The authorities chased and fined each ship 2 million VND.

Continuing the journey, the team discovered another boat with license plate NA 2735-TS of fisherman Ngo Tri Dien and boat NA- 80097- TS of fisherman Nguyen Van Hue, both in Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Chau district, illegally fishing.

The inspection showed that the vessel was licensed to trawl, so it was only allowed to fish in the open sea, but entered the coastal area to fish with trawlers; Mr. Ngo Tri Dien's vessel NA - 80097-TS did not carry a fishing license and identification papers, so it was fined 2.4 million VND.

When discovered, the above mentioned ship owners cut their nets and ran away, so the team had to chase them and ask them to return to pull up the illegal items.

After being informed and reminded, the ship owners and fishermen complied and realized their violations; the inspection team applied the lightest penalty and assigned the Cua Lo Border Guard Station to make the penalty decision.

In total, after 5 days of operation, from May 22-26, the provincial interdisciplinary inspection team fined 8 ship owners with a total fine of 36.4 million VND; propagated and reminded dozens of ship owners operating inshore and offshore to comply with the Fisheries Law, and combat illegal fishing activities.

In addition, from the beginning of 2020 until now, through inspections, the Department of Fisheries has imposed fines of over 300 million VND and the province's coastal border stations have patrolled and fined nearly 100 fishing boats illegally fishing aquatic and seafood in the coastal waters of Nghe An.
