Nghe An: Growth rate in the first 6 months of the year is higher than the national average
(Baonghean.vn) - According to the assessment of the General Statistics Office, the growth rate of Nghe An's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first 6 months of 2020 was 2.69%, higher than the national average (1.81%) and achieved a fairly good growth rate in the North Central region.
On the afternoon of June 29, the Nghe An Provincial Statistics Office held a press conference to announce socio-economic statistics for the first 6 months of 2020. Attending the press conference were representatives of provincial departments, branches, and press agencies.

Mr. Phan Truong Son - Deputy Director in charge of the Provincial Statistics Office announced some basic issues of the province in the first 6 months of 2020.
Accordingly, the province's socio-economic development situation has encountered many difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic; consumer prices have tended to increase slightly; some sectors such as tourism - services, transportation - transportation have decreased due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, unusual weather changes have affected production, etc.
According to data released by the Provincial Statistics Office, in the first 6 months of 2020, the growth rate of the province's gross domestic product (GRDP) in the first 6 months of 2020 at 2010 comparative prices was estimated at VND 40,470.7 billion, up 2.69% over the first 6 months of 2019, of which the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector was estimated at VND 10,218.1 billion, up 4.98%; the industry and construction sector was VND 11,380.9 billion, up 5.11%; the service sector was VND 16,704.6 billion, up 0.2% and product tax was VND 2,167.1 billion, down 0.59%.
Nghe An's GRDP in the first 6 months of 2020 was at 2.69%, considered the lowest growth rate of the first 6 months of the years in the period 2011-2020. However, this growth rate in 2020 is higher than the national average (1.81%), achieving a fairly good growth rate for the whole country and the North Central region.
A bright spot in the province's economic picture in the first 6 months of 2020 was the construction industry, which increased by 9.47%, while non-state enterprises and newly built residential areas increased quite well.
In the first 6 months of the year, the industrial production index is estimated to increase by 1.08% over the same period last year. After the epidemic break, businesses have returned to production, and the industry has shown good signs of recovery.

In the context of the epidemic, the agricultural sector achieved the plan and scenario set out despite the unusual developments of African swine fever; the output of livestock such as buffaloes, cattle, and poultry increased (except for pigs, which decreased), the forestry and timber exploitation sectors achieved high results, and the aquatic products grew well. Compared to the plan and scenario set out for the first 6 months of the year, the agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products sectors exceeded.
Regarding the service sector, although the growth rate was at a record low, there were two sectors that developed quite well, namely the Information and Communications sector with telecommunications revenue increasing sharply at 7.15%.

In addition, the Finance, Banking and Insurance sectors increased. In the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Health sector actively fought the epidemic, spending on health increased, so the growth rate of this sector reached 8.19%.
At the press conference, leaders of the Provincial Statistics Office and departments and branches discussed and answered many questions raised. Thereby providing information and clarifying the socio-economic situation of the whole country in the first 6 months of 2020.

The publication of statistics on socio-economic indicators every 6 months and every year not only provides timely and accurate statistical information, serving the direction and management activities of the province, but also widely disseminates the socio-economic development plans of the locality. On that basis, solutions are developed to effectively implement the set goals.
