During the current drought in Nghe An, Thanh Chuong district has 141 hectares of tea withered and dead. To save the tea plants, tea growers in Thanh Chuong district have used a sprinkler irrigation system to combat the drought. Mr. Nguyen Hong Tuan, a farmer in Phong Thinh village, Thanh Thinh commune (Thanh Chuong), said that his family has 1.7 hectares of industrial tea. To irrigate the tea on hot days, his family dug a pond, purchased a pump, and installed a sprinkler irrigation system to irrigate the entire tea area. Photo: Xuan Hoang

Mr. Vo Ba Luong - owner of a tea garden in Thanh Thinh commune said that to install an effective nozzle system, 1 hectare of tea requires an investment of about 20 million VND. Photo: Xuan Hoang
After watering once, the nozzle is removed to avoid damage due to weather, and can be easily reinstalled before watering again. Photo: Quang An
When the pump is running, the sprinkler always rotates, so the water is evenly distributed over the entire tea area. This is the most effective irrigation method today, but it is difficult to meet the requirements if the weather is above 42 degrees Celsius. Photo: Xuan Hoang

Every 4-5 days, people install watering nozzles once, watering time is about 4 hours. Photo: Quang An

Mr. Tran Phi Hung - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Chuong district said: The district has 4,500 hectares of tea, of which 3,500 hectares are invested in by people with sprinkler irrigation. Therefore, in the hot season, the tea gardens with sprinkler irrigation all sprout and are harvested, minimizing the area of tea that is burnt. Photo: Quang An
