Ha Dong District Police (Hanoi) said they have just arrested Nguyen Manh Hung (born in 1983, residing in Quang Ninh) to investigate the act of buying and selling human body parts. Hung is the leader of a kidney trafficking ring operating in Phuc La ward.

At the investigation agency, Nguyen Manh Hung initially confessed that due to not having a stable job, in June 2019 he went to the area of ​​Military Hospital 103 to apply for a job at the hospital under construction.

During this time, Hung came up with the idea of ​​finding people in need of kidney transplants and people selling kidneys to buy and sell kidneys for illegal profits.

Through social networks, the subject posted information, connected with people who wanted to buy and sell kidneys, then rented a room for the kidney seller in Phuc La ward, Ha Dong district. Hung agreed with the kidney seller on a price of 250-300 million VND/kidney.

To carry out the act of buying and selling kidneys, Hung connected interested parties and then took them for testing. When the tests gave suitable results, Hung carried out the procedure to rationalize the kidney donation for the hospital to perform a kidney transplant.

Initially, Ha Dong District Police clarified that Nguyen Manh Hung had bought and sold kidneys twice. The first time was in November 2019, Hung bought a kidney from a young man from Thai Binh province for 250 million VND and sold it to a person in need of a transplant from Nghe An for 350 million VND.

In this case, Hung joined hands with a subject named Hoach. When the case was successful, Hoach paid Hung 25 million VND.

In March 2020, Hung continued to buy a kidney from a native in Hanoi for 280 million VND and then sold it to a kidney transplant recipient in Ha Tinh for 480 million VND. In this transaction, after deducting all expenses, Hung earned 85 million VND.

In addition, at the time of arrest, police discovered that Hung was supporting two people who wanted to sell their kidneys and had registered residence in Binh Phuoc and Soc Trang provinces.

The Investigation Police Agency, Ha Dong District Police, decided to temporarily detain Nguyen Manh Hung to investigate the act of buying and selling human body parts.

During the investigation to expand the case, on July 14, 2020, the Criminal Police Team of the district police arrested Nguyen Manh Thang (born in 1987, residing in Ha Nam province) to clarify the act of buying and selling human body parts.

It is known that Thang once sold a kidney and then directly acted as a broker to make illegal profits. He posted on social networks to find people who wanted to buy or sell kidneys and then legalized kidney transplant procedures at the hospital.

Initial investigations determined that in June 2020, Thang had successfully organized a kidney sale. The kidney seller was identified as a man from Bac Giang province for 250 million VND and sold it to a woman from Ha Nam province for 460 million VND. After deducting expenses, Thang earned 150 million VND.

When discovered by the police, Thang fled the area. On July 14, while hiding in Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province, Nguyen Manh Thang was arrested by the Criminal Police Team of Ha Dong District Police.
