On the morning of July 25, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption held its 18th meeting under the chairmanship of General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong - Head of the Steering Committee, to review and evaluate the results of the work in the past 6 months, and give opinions on the directions and key tasks for the last months of 2020.

6 months, disciplined 186 party members for corruption and intentional violations
Reporting at the meeting, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee, said that in the past 6 months, Party committees and Inspection Committees at all levels have disciplined 186 party members for corruption and intentional violations.
The Central Executive Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Central Inspection Commission have strictly and publicly disciplined many high-ranking officials under the Central Committee's management, both incumbent and retired, and officials related to Party congress personnel at all levels, strongly affirming the Party and State's determination to fight corruption with "no forbidden areas, no exceptions."
Since the 17th Session of the Steering Committee, 6 cases have been completely handled, 1 new case has been added; 13 new cases/16 defendants have been prosecuted; 3 cases/5 defendants have been re-investigated; 55 additional defendants have been prosecuted in 11 cases; 11 cases/63 defendants have been completed; 7 cases/44 defendants have been indicted; 9 cases/27 defendants have been tried at first instance, and 6 cases/47 defendants have been tried at appeal.
Focused on investigating and clarifying cases of officials and party members who committed violations in a number of corruption and economic cases related to personnel of Party congresses at all levels; directed the removal of difficulties and obstacles, and agreed on handling views on the following cases: The case occurred at Nhat Cuong Company and a number of related units; the case occurred at Saigon Agricultural Corporation; the case occurred at Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Corporation (Sabeco); the case occurred at the Management Board of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project; the case occurred at Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Company.
Completed the trial of a number of very serious, especially serious, complicated cases that the public is interested in: The case occurred at Hai Thanh Company, Navy; the case occurred at Mobifone Telecommunications Corporation; the case occurred at Vietnam Social Security; the case of violating regulations on land management, violating regulations on management and use of State assets causing loss and waste, occurred in Da Nang.
Along with that, the work of detecting and handling corruption in ministries, branches and localities continues to receive attention. In the past 6 months, 143 new cases/399 defendants have been prosecuted for corruption and crimes of position. Civil prosecution and enforcement agencies nationwide have recovered over 37,000 billion VND; in particular, cases under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee have recovered, temporarily detained, seized, frozen, and prevented the dissipation of assets worth over 11,700 billion VND and many other valuable assets and real estate.
Focus on directing the trial of 9 key cases
Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Head of the Steering Committee, noted that anti-corruption work needs to be further promoted, with the spirit of both effectively fighting corruption and successfully organizing Party congresses at all levels; focusing on completing anti-corruption tasks according to this year's Work Program of the Steering Committee; and work contents according to the Conclusions at the Steering Committee Meetings and the Standing Meeting of the Steering Committee.

In particular, speed up the investigation and handling of serious, complicated corruption and economic cases that are of public concern; promptly investigate and clarify cases of officials and Party members who have committed violations in cases and incidents related to Party congress personnel at all levels; resolutely and strictly handle and prevent unqualified officials, those with political ideology, ethics, lifestyle degradation, negativity and corruption from entering the Party Committee.
General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong stated that by the end of this year, we will strive to complete the investigation of 15 cases, issue indictments to prosecute 17 cases, conduct first-instance trials of 20 cases, conduct appeal trials of 6 cases, complete verification and resolve 19 cases under the monitoring and direction of the Steering Committee; especially focus on directing the completion of first-instance trials of 9 key cases according to the Steering Committee's plan.
At the meeting, the Steering Committee also discussed and approved the contents of the viewpoint on handling violations in serious and complicated corruption and economic cases; assigned competent agencies to study and issue or propose competent agencies to issue legal documents for practical application.
Report on the results of the inspection of the leadership, direction and implementation of the work of receiving and handling denunciations and reports of crimes and recommendations for prosecution related to signs of crimes related to economic management order and positions in some localities. Report on the results of the implementation of recommendations of the Steering Committee's inspection teams on the work of recovering assets appropriated and lost in criminal cases of corruption and economic crimes and give opinions on the Project to amend and supplement Working Regulation No. 07 dated April 9, 2013 of the Steering Committee.
