Christopher Ford, US Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation, said that the US's competitive policy towards Russia and China does not imply hostility. Accordingly, Washington is committed to constructive behavior towards Moscow and Beijing.

"We have realized that we need to come up with more aggressive competitive strategies than the elites did in the post-Cold War era. The United States is really trying to engage both competitors as great powers in areas where we think there is potential," said US diplomat Christopher Ford.

This statement is said to go against the view of US diplomats who consider Russia and China as the two biggest power competitors of the US.

Christopher Ford added that Russian and US officials will meet next week in Vienna to discuss future arms control. In addition, the meetings in Vienna will discuss the issue of ensuring stability in outer space. The US has recently officially accused Russia of conducting an anti-satellite missile test in orbit. Space warfare is now being used as a force to enhance combat capabilities.

Christopher Ford asserted that the US needs to come up with an arms control framework with Russia and China, and hopes that through it "it will be possible to limit" strategic weapons.

"It is important that the United States compete with Russia and China in areas where these adversaries force the United States to act, and cooperate when we see opportunities to work effectively together," the US diplomat added.
