Nghe An quarantines a person who visited 'patient 418'

(Baonghean.vn) - Up to now, there are more than 1,716 Nghe An people returning from Da Nang in the past 14 days. Among them, there is one person who had close contact with "patient 418" and is being quarantined at a medical station.

Speaking to Nghe An Newspaper reporters on the evening of July 26, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Dinh Chinh - Director of Nghe An Department of Health said that, through screening, up to now, there have been more than 1,716 people from Da Nang to Nghe An in the past 14 days. In particular, today there were more than 500 people. These people are being closely monitored by health agencies and required to self-isolate at home.

Also tonight, the Nghe An Province Center for Disease Control also took a sample for testing from a case in close contact with the patient in Da Nang. The first result showed that this person was negative for nCoV-2.

"This is a 25-year-old female medical officer, from Vien Thanh commune, currently working at Hai Chau Hospital, Da Nang. This morning, after the Ministry of Health announced "patient 418", she proactively contacted the authorities to report, take samples for testing and be quarantined," said a leader of Yen Thanh District Medical Center.

According to this female medical officer, on July 21, she directly examined "patient 418" at Hai Chau Hospital. At that time, this man showed no signs of infection. On July 25, she returned to her hometown in Yen Thanh district to visit her sick grandmother. A day later, she received information about this case and proactively reported it.

"Patient 418" is Mr. NVN (61 years old, residing in Thanh Binh ward, Hai Chau district) with a history of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. On July 11, the patient felt a cough, fever in the afternoon, fatigue, weight loss, and poor appetite. The patient asked his son-in-law to take him to a private clinic on Bac Dau street (Hai Chau district).

On July 18, the patient went to the emergency room at Hai Chau District Hospital, then went to the Emergency Department of Da Nang Hospital and was transferred to the Department of Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine of Da Nang Hospital (room 506). Here, the doctor noted that the patient was coughing up white phlegm, had difficulty breathing, had scattered moist rales, and had crackles in both lungs. On July 23, the patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Da Nang Hospital (3rd floor).

Immediately after receiving information about the patient's case, on the afternoon of July 24, the Da Nang Center for Disease Control (CDC) conducted monitoring and collected samples for testing. The screening test results on July 25 by the Da Nang CDC showed that the sample was positive for SARS-CoV-2. Patient N.'s sample was then sent to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang and the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, all of which tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The patient is currently being monitored and treated at the Intensive Care Unit of Da Nang Hospital. The patient is currently on a ventilator via endotracheal tube, with temporary lung ventilation and rough lung sounds.
