After breaking into a luxury apartment, the thief broke the safe and took away 40,700 USD and 2 taels of SJC gold.

The Hanoi People's Procuracy has just completed the indictment to prosecute Ngo Van Vu (born 1991, in Thai Nguyen) for "Theft of property".

According to the accusation, Ms. Hoang Thi N. (born in 1997, from Thai Nguyen) is the defendant's niece.

Around November 2019, she asked Vu to repaint her apartment in Park 2 building, Times City urban area, Hanoi. To facilitate the repair of the apartment, Ms. N. told Vu the password to open the main door of the apartment.

Because Vu was once asked by his nephew to take him to buy USD, he knew that Ms. N. had a lot of money kept in a safe in the bedroom of the apartment.

After Vu finished renovating the apartment, Ms. N. moved in but did not change the main door password. On February 8, she returned to her mother's house in Thai Nguyen.

Meeting Ms. N. here, knowing that the apartment was vacant and that he was in debt, Vu had the idea of going to her apartment to steal.

At 8:00 a.m. on February 11, the defendant brought a metal cutter, wore a mask, and went from Thai Nguyen to Ms. N's house. He entered the password, opened the main door, broke into the victim's house, and searched for property.

Vu used a cutter to break the safe, took 40,700 USD and 2 taels of SJC gold, then took a bus back to Thai Nguyen.

After hiding the stolen property at home, the defendant went to Ms. N's mother's house, and together with Ms. N and her mother returned to Times City urban area to celebrate the new house.

At 7:00 p.m. the same day, Ms. N. returned home and discovered that the money and gold in her safe were missing, so she reported it to the police.

The next day, Vu went to Hoang Mai District Police to surrender and confessed to his crime.

The investigation agency determined that the property that the defendant had appropriated from Ms. N. was more than 1 billion VND. After receiving the property back, the owner requested a lighter sentence for Vu.
