Four years in prison for young man who 'loved' underage girlfriend
(Baonghean.vn) - While working as a hired hand in Thuong Son commune (Do Luong), Khoat made friends with a 13-year-old girl on Facebook and invited her to run away from home to the Central Highlands to live together.
The People's Court of Do Luong district, Nghe An province has just opened a first-instance trial and sentenced Nguyen Ngoc Khoat (born in 1989), residing in hamlet 14, Ban Nguyen commune, Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province to 4 years in prison for the crime of“Sexual intercourse with a person from 13 years old to under 16 years old”.The victim is NTT (13 years old, 10 months and 10 days old), residing in Do Luong district.

The indictment of the People's Procuracy of Do Luong district showed that in early November 2019, Khoat and T met each other on Facebook. Over time, they texted each other on social networks and developed feelings for each other. From March to April 2020, with T's consent, Khoat had "adult things" with T many times and together they ran away from home to Dak Lak to live and work.
When the girl and Khoat left home together, the family filed a report with the Do Luong District Police Department to search for T.
Immediately upon receiving the crime report, the Investigation Police Agency of Do Luong District Police conducted an investigation and coordinated with Dak Song District Police, Dak Lak Province to arrest Nguyen Ngoc Khoat. Through questioning, Khoat admitted to having had sexual intercourse with T many times.
At the trial, defendant Khoat admitted to the crime. This young man said he had feelings for the victim and that he had consented to have sex. In addition, the victim's family representative also filed a petition to reduce the sentence for defendant Khoat.
Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel of judges also determined that the indictment filed by the Procuracy against the defendant was the right person and the right crime.
However, considering that the defendant has a good character and is a first-time offender, although Khoat's criminal behavior has caused consequences for T, due to blind love, he did not realize that his actions were a serious violation of the law against children, who are subjects absolutely protected by law.
For the above reasons, the People's Court sentenced Khoat to 4 years in prison and ordered Khoat to compensate T for damage to his health and mental health in the amount of 50 million VND.
