Nghe An will build Lach Quen fishing port for 200 billion VND

According to the report of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, after more than 2 years of implementing Directive 45/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister, Nghe An has achieved a number of positive results, from fishermen's awareness of law compliance to management of fishing activities, contributing to the task of overcoming the European Commission's "Yellow Card" warning on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

The monitoring of fishing vessels has been gradually improved, and the monitoring of seafood loading and unloading output at fishing ports has had positive changes. Management agencies are increasingly serious in inspecting, handling and penalizing fishing vessels that violate regulations. The coordination between units is increasingly close, creating overall efficiency in exploitation management.

Up to now, about 50 - 70% of fishing vessels have notified according to regulations. The recording and submission of fishing logs by fishermen has gradually improved, with 70 - 80% of fishing vessels entering port recording and submitting logs.

The monitoring rate is increasing, in 2019 it reached 30 - 40%, in 2020 this rate reached 50 - 60% of port output.

Up to now, 939/1,243 fishing vessels in operation have installed voyage monitoring equipment, reaching 75.54% of the requirement.

For the project of building fishing service infrastructure in Lach Quen, Quynh Luu district, with a total investment of 200 billion VND, the goal is to provide fishing logistics services; ensure fishing boats with a capacity of up to 1,000CV and boats with a tonnage of up to 40 tons can safely dock. Currently, the consulting unit has completed the survey of terrain, geology and prepared the project profile. It is expected that by December 2020, the construction packages will be organized.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu said: In the context of the Covid-19 epidemic and complicated weather conditions, the province has made great efforts in implementing the dual goal: both preventing the epidemic and focusing on economic development.

Receiving the opinions of the members of the Working Group, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu said that he will try to implement the recommendations of the European Commission to remove the "Yellow Card".

At today's working session, the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the province gathered information on the implementation of pig herd restoration in Nghe An.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that although Nghe An has made many efforts to implement the EC's recommendations on combating IUU fishing in the province. However, through inspection, there are still cases of ship owners not fully declaring information when arriving at the port. He requested that the authorities strengthen inspection and handling so that fishermen can seriously implement. Regarding the project to build Lach Quen fishing port, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development agreed with the proposal of Nghe An province.
