Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company: Many high-yield sugarcane growing models
(Baonghean.vn) - Improving the productivity and output of raw sugarcane is the strategic goal of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company. Therefore, in recent times, the unit has implemented a number of intensive sugarcane cultivation models with new sugarcane varieties with many outstanding advantages, with a yield of 95 tons/ha.
Focus on sugarcane care after the rain
After the rains caused by storm No. 2, the sugarcane fields of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company revived after many months of severe drought. Mr. Nguyen Sy Hai - Head of Raw Material Production Department of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company said: The severe drought has hindered the growth of sugarcane for a long time, even some fields have withered leaves.
Immediately after the rain, the Company directed the agricultural staff to actively stick to the raw material area, instructing people on how to take care of the area by applying NPK fertilizer produced by the company, weeding, and hilling; any sugarcane fields with long shoots were peeled off and checked for pests and diseases.
Usually after each rain, white cotton aphids appear on sugarcane. When agricultural officers discover pests, they immediately notify the household owner to organize timely prevention.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Thuc, an agricultural officer in the raw material area, said that the Company assigned him to be in charge of 4 communes: Nghia Dong, Nghia Hop, Nghia Dung, Nghia Binh, so the daily work is quite hard, especially after the rains. That is, carefully checking each sugarcane plot for pests and diseases, the development status of the sugarcane... If any sugarcane plot shows signs of pests and diseases, or any sugarcane plot is poorly developed and has a lot of grass, then contact the household owner to have a plan for timely care and pest control.
“Being an agricultural officer is a daily, silent job in the fields. If we are negligent or irresponsible, it will affect the productivity and quality of sugarcane, causing sugarcane growers to lose income. Knowing this, I always put my duties first, and I am present in the fields every day to grasp the situation in detail,” shared Mr. Nguyen Cong Thuc.

New models
In recent years, the sugarcane raw material area has tended to decrease due to many areas of sugarcane being left over, people growing other crops. To overcome this situation, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company has implemented many solutions to stabilize the sugarcane raw material area.
The key task is to organize the review and planning of concentrated sugarcane material areas by consolidating fields, accumulating land, intensively increasing sugarcane productivity, and building a model for growing new sugarcane varieties. The expected sugarcane yield in the models is from 80 tons/ha or more; the models are mainly new sugarcane varieties, early care, and are applied entirely by machinery.

The sugarcane material area of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company currently maintains a total area of nearly 6,000 hectares, in 5 districts: Tan Ky, Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Anh Son and Thanh Chuong, in which Tan Ky district is the focus with nearly 4,000 hectares. Sugarcane has been associated with people in the material area for decades, many households have escaped poverty thanks to sugarcane.
However, in reality, sugarcane growers are not well off because the productivity and quality of sugarcane are not high. Therefore, improving the productivity and quality of raw sugarcane is a strategic policy of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company.
To achieve that goal, in recent years, the Company has implemented many high-yield sugarcane intensive farming models, applying 100% mechanization, using new sugarcane varieties.
Mr. Nguyen Sy Hai - Head of Raw Material Production Department of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company said: In the 2019 - 2020 crop year, the Company rented 17 hectares of agricultural land from people in Nghia Dong commune, which previously grew ineffective short-term crops, to implement a model of intensive sugarcane cultivation, using the new sugarcane variety LK 9211.
As an inter-regional, contiguous model, applying mechanization from land preparation, fertilization, planting, care... to harvesting and reasonable investment, the average yield reaches 95 tons/ha. Entering the 2020-2021 crop year, the entire sugarcane area of the model is kept intact, thanks to timely and reasonable investment in care, the sugarcane sprouts develop strongly, and it is expected that this crop year's yield will increase to 120 tons/ha.

Through economic accounting of the new sugarcane planting model in Nghia Dong commune, directly implemented by some company officials, it shows that 1 hectare, after deducting investment costs, still has a profit of over 40 million VND. The reason why the model brings high profits is because it applies 100% mechanization from land preparation, planting, to fertilization, care, harvesting and high productivity, thus reducing labor costs.
From that model, in the 2020 - 2021 crop year, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company deployed 3 more models in Tan Xuan, Giai Xuan and Dong Van communes.
A survey of the new sugarcane planting model in Thanh Tra hamlet, Tan Xuan commune, using new sugarcane varieties: KK3, LK 9211, SC 2 and U-Thoong, showed that the scale of 2.5 hectares, planted using double row technique, although the sugarcane is in the stage of forming the internodes, all the sugarcane rows are growing evenly, the sugarcane plants are large and strong.
Implementing intensive farming models to increase sugarcane productivity ensures raw material sources for sugar factories, creates stable jobs, and increases income for farmers. In the coming time, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company will continue to expand the models, introduce new sugarcane varieties to continuously improve sugarcane productivity and quality.
