(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the price of chicken meat in Nghe An has dropped to the bottom at 45,000 VND/kg in some places.

Mr. Dau Ngoc Hoa - Director of VietGAP Dien Trung Livestock Cooperative (Dien Chau) said: In June and July 2020, the price of industrially raised broiler chickens was raised to 55,000 VND/kg, however, by the end of July, when the Covid-19 epidemic reappeared in Vietnam, the price of broiler chickens decreased to 45,000 VND/kg. The cooperative has 37 broiler farms, the number of chickens ready for sale is still 200,000.

"Dien Trung's broiler chickens are mainly raised on farms, with a price of 45,000 VND/kg, farmers do not make a profit" - Mr. Dau Ngoc Hoa said.

In Yen Thanh and Tan Ky areas... chicken farms that raise chickens in the form of free-range chickens have better quality chickens, but the price is still lower than 15 days ago. Mr. Le Van Hung in hamlet 6A, Tien Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) said: 15 days ago, the price of chickens for sale was 63,000 VND/kg, but now it has dropped to 58,000 VND/kg and is still difficult to sell.

"Currently, the farm still has 2,500 chickens ready to be sold, but no traders have come to buy them," Mr. Hung shared.

According to farm owners, the reason for the sharp decline in the number of broiler chickens raised on farms is that chickens are raised in large quantities, often thousands of them are sold at a time, and traders transport them to consume in many provinces and cities, including Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Tri... to Hai Phong, Hanoi. While these localities are experiencing the Covid-19 epidemic, transportation is difficult, restaurants are closed, and collective kitchens of schools, companies... are also temporarily closed, causing chickens to not be consumed.

However, a survey at traditional markets in Nghe An province shows that chicken meat is still sold stably, with prices ranging from 90,000 - 120,000 VND/kg (depending on the type). The reason why chickens at traditional markets are still "priced" is because traders mainly select free-range chickens, raise them in free-range gardens and hills, the meat quality is more delicious, and is not much affected by the Covid-19 epidemic./.
