According to a CNN poll released on August 16, the gap between candidate Joe Biden and President Trump has narrowed compared to previous polls.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leads Trump by just 4 points with 50% to 46% of likely voters. This result shows a significant shift from a survey conducted in June that showed Biden leading Trump by 14 points with 55% to 41%.

The change in support in this survey is mainly focused on male voters, who were evenly split in June but now favor Trump. 56% of male voters support President Trump, while 40% support Biden. Voters between the ages of 35 and 64 also now favor President Trump instead of Biden, as they did in June.

Among independent voters, if in June, Mr. Biden led President Trump with a support rate of 52% compared to 41%, now this group of voters almost equally supports the two candidates with 46% supporting Mr. Biden and 45% supporting Mr. Trump.

Voters said that even though they supported President Trump, they could change their minds later. Twelve percent of voters who switched back to support President Trump said they would likely change their minds before Election Day, while only 7 percent of voters who backed Biden said that.

The results of the nationwide survey were conducted just before the Democratic National Convention, which began on August 17 (local time) to announce that former Vice President Joe Biden will be the nominee to run for president in the 2020 election of the Democratic Party.

CNN's survey was conducted from August 12 to 15 with 1,108 participants and the margin of error was 3.7 points./.
