Hospital in Nghe An saves patient with heart punctured by exploding bullet

(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An General Hospital has just saved the life of a patient whose heart was punctured by a bullet explosion.

At 3:21 p.m. on August 19, Nghe An General Hospital (GHH) received patient Nguyen Thai T, 26 years old, residing in Dien Tan commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An, in a state of difficulty breathing, mild blood loss, pale skin, low blood pressure, and a hole in the left chest.

Through medical history, Mr. T's family said that while he was burning trash, there was an explosion. Mr. T's family and neighbors ran out and saw T lying on the ground. Mr. T was immediately taken to Dien Chau District General Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred to Nghe An General Hospital.

Here, doctors took blood for testing, performed an ultrasound to detect pericardial effusion and left pleural effusion; performed a CT scan to detect additional metal foreign bodies in the pericardium on the posterior wall of the left ventricle. Patient T was immediately assigned to emergency surgery to treat the injury and remove the foreign body from the heart.

Doctor Nguyen Huu Nam - Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Nghe An General Hospital, the main surgeon of the surgery said: "With the coordination of many specialties, we opened the patient's chest and sutured the heart wounds, then removed the bullet, the bullet was 3cm long and nearly 1cm in diameter".

"After 1 hour and 30 minutes of intense fighting for the patient's life, the surgery was successful, the patient was saved by a hair's breadth" - said doctor Nam.

After surgery, patient T was transferred to the Department of Surgical Resuscitation, where doctors performed post-operative resuscitation. By 3:00 p.m. on August 20, the patient's condition had improved significantly and he was awake.

"By 8:00 a.m. on August 21, patient T was breathing well on his own, with no signs of abnormalities or anemia... the patient is expected to be discharged next week," said Dr. Luong Manh Hung, Head of the Department of Surgical Resuscitation at Nghe An General Hospital.

It is known that every year, Nghe An General Hospital provides emergency care and surgery to save the lives of 5 to 10 patients with heart injuries. And recently, the hospital also saved the life of a female patient with a heart injury, removing a lead bullet from the patient's heart./.
