(Baonghean.vn) - With the advantages of being easy to grow and care for, high yield and fruit quality, Taiwanese pear guava trees in the mountainous area of Quynh Tam commune, Quynh Luu district are bringing a significant source of income to local people.

Mr. Dam Duy Tu's family in Hamlet 10, Quynh Tam Commune, planted 2,000 Taiwanese guava trees on an area of over 1 hectare. Mr. Tu said: Taiwanese guava has a short growing period, after 6-8 months of planting, the guava can start to be harvested. In particular, the tree bears fruit all year round and the fruit is large, sweet, thick flesh, and few seeds.

To ensure high yields for his family's guava garden, he takes care of it using organic methods, which include fertilizing it entirely with biological fertilizers to increase the elimination of toxins and unnecessary substances that are harmful to the plants. At the same time, he uses natural products to prevent green worms and leaf rollers.

In addition, he also regularly trims the branches to control the tree to be about 1.5 m high and 2.5 - 3 m wide as he wishes. This pruning technique also helps the tree to sprout, flower, and bear fruit continuously throughout the year.

Mr. Tu also invested hundreds of millions of dong to install a drip irrigation system using Israeli technology, helping the trees absorb nutrients quickly and save fertilizer. In addition, with the guava garden's terrain being quite flat, he focused on designing drainage ditches to avoid flooding and tree death during storms. Thanks to that, each year, on average, a guava tree produces 40 - 60 kg of fruit, with a selling price of 15 - 25 thousand dong/kg, so his family's income is relatively high.

Mr. Nguyen Van Loi in Hamlet 2, Quynh Tam Commune also grows Taiwanese guava. Thanks to good care and attention to nutritional ratio, his family's guava garden grows and develops quickly.

Mr. Loi said: For guava, if it rains, moths and fruit flies will sting it, causing the fruit to gradually rot, so he pays close attention to the step of wrapping each guava in plastic to avoid insects from biting and destroying it, to minimize fruit drop and also to create a beautiful appearance. In dry weather, he focuses on providing enough water so that the fruit grows larger and more evenly.

Taiwanese pear guava has a smooth, crispy skin, a sweet, cool taste, a fragrant aroma, and is rich in nutrients, so it is very popular in the market. Therefore, when the guava is ripe, traders come to his family's farm to buy it at a stable price.

Currently, not only Mr. Dam Duy Tu's family and Mr. Nguyen Van Loi's family, but also some other households in Quynh Tam commune have converted ineffective fruit growing areas to grow Taiwanese guava varieties, which have initially brought relatively high economic efficiency.

This guava variety grows well and is resistant to pests and diseases, so people have begun to widely propagate it..With scientific planting methods, without using pesticides during the care process and during the flowering and fruiting period, guava trees produce clean products, ensuring quality and safety for consumers. Therefore, currently in Quynh Tam, there are a few households that have built a brand, with a code to trace the origin of Taiwanese pear guava./.
