Farmer brings Quynh Luu black apple snails to raise and 'earns big profits' on Anh Son land
(Baonghean.vn) - After 1 year of experimenting with raising black apple snails in a pond, Mr. Dang Ba Ngo in village 2, Phuc Son commune, Anh Son district (Nghe An) has been successful with this model and many people have come to learn and gain experience to follow.
Mr. Ngo’s family has contracted a plot of land in the Bau Nap area to build a farm, mainly raising pigs, chickens, buffaloes and cows and digging ponds to raise fish. In addition to raising livestock, his family has 6 ponds with a total water surface area of 2 hectares.
In August 2019, Mr. Ngo went to Quynh Luu district to learn from experience and bought 5 million VND worth of snail seeds to test-raise on an area of 1 sao pond. After 5 months of care, he had snails to sell, the first sold more than 60kg, at the price of 60 thousand/kg, his family earned nearly 4 million VND.
Currently, snails are starting to be harvested in large quantities, restaurants order a lot, if they are all harvested, the income will be nearly 20 million VND, but Mr. Ngo keeps some to breed on a larger area.

Mr. Ngo shared: Raising black apple snails requires little investment, stable output, easy to raise, and adapts well to natural pond and lake conditions. Ponds need to be filled with soil, grass planted around the pond, and duckweed planted on the water surface. When it comes to reproduction, black apple snails choose places with lots of duckweed to lay eggs. The growth period of black apple snails from egg to adulthood is about 2 months.
Currently, in addition to raising commercial snails, Mr. Ngo is also hatching snail eggs to create a source of snail seeds to multiply in his family's 4-sao pond area.

Black apple snails lay eggs all year round, but most often during the rainy season from June to November every year. After the eggs hatch, the baby snails fall into the water. After a few days, their shells harden, and they crawl to find organic matter that decomposes in the water to eat and grow.
After about 5 - 6 months, adult snails can be harvested at about 25 - 30 snails/kg. To increase the hatching rate, Mr. Ngo collects eggs laid outside the pond and puts them in a styrofoam box to incubate, creating the right humidity like in the wild. When the snails have hatched to the required level, Mr. Ngo releases them into the duckweed and raises them for a few weeks. After that, the snails crawl out of the pond to find food to live. Because the snails find food themselves, especially green food, the snail meat is tough and crispy, which is popular with people.
