The conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan has escalated over the past two days. There have been casualties on both sides.

Türkiyevoiced support for Azerbaijan, while Russia and many countries around the world called on all sides to immediately cease hostilities and move to a political-diplomatic solution.

The confrontation between Armenia andAzerbaijanThe conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has been going on for decades. The conflict has subsided and flared up again. Since Soviet times, it has remained a flashpoint on the map.

Currently, both Armenia and Azerbaijan have declared martial law and mobilized their forces. In the conflicts taking place on the borders of the unrecognized republic, both sides of the conflict have suffered losses.

As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev declared about the counterattack in the early morning of September 27 in response to Armenia, this is the "will of the people".

“The successful counteroffensive operation put an end to the 30-year occupation and injustice. The Azerbaijani people want to live on their own land,” Aliev said.

Meanwhile, on September 28, Turkish President TayyipErdoganhas called for an end to “Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani territory”. According to the leader, Azerbaijan, which has waited 30 years to resolve its territorial issue, is now acting independently”. He noted that “the immediate liberation of occupied Azerbaijani lands by Armenia will pave the way for the establishment of peace and stability in the region”.

According to Deputy Head of the Department of World Economy and World Politics at Russia's Higher School of Economics Andrei Suzdaltsev, the issue will now depend largely on the actions of Russia and Türkiye.

Experts are looking nervously in Ankara's direction, because Türkiye is interested in supporting Azerbaijan, it is interested in being present in the Zapadka, to act as an arbitrator here. According to him, there have been rumors that Turkish special forces should appear here, but so far, "this is information stuffing".

Military observer Alexei Sukonkin also agrees that Turkey has a hand in the conflict. He explains this by saying that the Turkish leader has had very ambitious plans recently.

On the other hand, when discussing military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh, one increasingly hears the fact that Armenia is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

But experts' opinions on the intervention of the Russian Federation in this conflict are different. Some believe that Russia will have to intervene within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty. Others believe that the CSTO applies only to conflicts between participating countries, and Azerbaijan has nothing to do with it.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma for CIS Affairs Viktor Vodolatsky explained that no one is attacking Armenia itself. The ongoing conflict in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and today this territory has nothing to do with the CSTO. And Russia cannot intervene, because this is a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

At the moment, no one dares to suggest when the conflicts in this hot spot will end. Viktor Vodolatsky noted that the situation in the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh does not please anyone, even the world community. And Russia will always fight for peace between these countries. According to him, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is conducting in-depth negotiations with his colleagues from these countries.

Lavrov also contacted Türkiye so that they would not “ignite this issue.” In a similar vein, the specialized committee should hold in-depth meetings with its colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of Russia for CIS Affairs Viktor Vodolatsky, Russia has good relations with these countries and then it is necessary to hold a tripartite meeting with the participation of the three parliaments. He believes that the situation that has been going on for a long time must be resolved by diplomatic and peaceful means.

Professor of the Academy of Military Sciences Vadim Kozyulin also believes that the only way to resolve the situation is to cease fire and move dialogue to political and diplomatic channels, this was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov./.
