Five and a half years in prison for a fugitive wanted for 19 years.
(Baonghean.vn) - After assaulting and injuring someone, Thu fled and a warrant was issued for his arrest. After 19 years, Thu was apprehended while living in Ninh Hoa town, Khanh Hoa province.
On the morning of September 30, 2020, the People's Court of Tan Ky District tried the criminal case against Truong Van Thu (born in 1976) and Truong Van Chien (born in 1983), both residing in Keo Hamlet, Nghia Phuc Commune, Tan Ky District, for the crime of "intentional infliction of injury".
According to the indictment, on the night of August 4, 2001, Truong Van Thu and Truong Van Chien, both residing in the same neighborhood, went to Mr. Truong Van Ngoc's house to help with a wedding. Afterwards, Chien was sent to call people to butcher a pig.
On the way home, Chien met Truong Van Lam, who lived in the same hamlet. The two of them passed by the alley leading to Mr. Nguyen Van Du's house in Keo hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, where they saw Mr. Nguyen Van Luong (born in 1977), residing in Da Son hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, and Ms. Truong Thi Thuy (born in 1976) sitting and talking. Chien and Lam tried to eavesdrop, but Mr. Luong discovered them and chased them away.

After being kicked out, Chien went to Mr. Ngoc's house and told Thu about being chased away by Luong. Hearing this, Thu went inside and called Truong Van Binh (born in 1977), Mr. Ngoc's son. Then Thu, Binh, and Chien went to find Luong to beat him up.
At around 11 PM that same day, all three went into Thu's house to get weapons. Binh took a shovel, Chien took a 1.2-meter-long stick, and Thu took a chain lock, then they all went to the alley leading to Mr. Du's house.
When they saw Mr. Luong and Ms. Thuy still sitting and talking, Binh grabbed a shovel and hit Mr. Luong on the left hip. Mr. Luong tried to run away but tripped and fell. Seeing this, Thu, Binh, and Chien rushed in and repeatedly punched Mr. Luong. Mr. Luong then got up and ran into the kitchen of Mr. Du's family home.
Seeing Luong running away, Binh chased after him into the kitchen and continued to hit him with a shovel. Mr. Du woke up and turned on the lights, so Binh ran outside and went home with Thu and Chien. Luong was taken to the Nghe An Friendship General Hospital for emergency treatment.
After injuring Mr. Luong, Thu fled the area fearing arrest. On July 23, 2020, Thu was arrested by the PC 02 Department of the Nghe An Provincial Police in coordination with the Ninh Hoa Town Police, Khanh Hoa Province, pursuant to a warrant.Wanted.
The forensic medical examination report on injuries No. 186/TTPY, dated October 4, 2001, from the Nghe An Provincial Forensic Center concluded that Mr. Nguyen Van Luong's total disability rate was 55%.
At the investigative agency, Truong Van Thu confessed to all of his criminal acts, which were consistent with the documents and evidence collected in the case file.
Following the incident, Truong Van Thu, Truong Van Binh, and Truong Van Chien influenced their families to compensate Nguyen Van Luong for all health damages with 4,000,000 VND. To date, Mr. Luong has not requested anything further.
In this case, Truong Van Chien and Truong Van Binh were tried by the People's Court of Nghe An province on March 18, 2002, for the crime of "Intentional infliction of injury," with Chien receiving a 42-month prison sentence and Binh a 5-year prison sentence.
At the end of the trial, the panel of judges sentenced Truong Van Thu to 5 years and 6 months in prison.
