On the afternoon of October 5, we arrived at Chau Thai commune.Quy Hop district(Nghe An), right at the beginning of the commune, the section bordering Chau Quang commune, there is a quarantine checkpoint, with a guard on duty. However, through observation, it can be seen that at the quarantine checkpoint, only 1 bag of lime powder is arranged, the technical aspects are not guaranteed, there is no disinfection pit, no chemical sprayer, and the barrier pole cannot be pulled up and down.

Mr. Lo Minh Duc - Vice Chairman of Chau Thai Commune People's Committee said,African swine feveroccurred locally on September 3, at a livestock farm in Lien Minh hamlet.

The heaviest loss was that of Mr. Ha Trung Thanh's family in Dong Minh hamlet, whose 30 pigs were destroyed. Mr. Thanh sadly said: After many years of doing business in the South, the couple saved up a little capital. In early 2020, they returned to their hometown to invest in building a pig farm. 3 months ago, the couple bought 30 super lean pigs for 113 million VND to raise. Unexpectedly, the pigs were recently infected with an epidemic, forcing them to destroy the entire herd, weighing 2.5 tons. Now they only have an empty barn, and the couple is crying because they have nothing.

In addition to Thanh's family, in Chau Thai commune, there are many households that lost everything in just a moment. For example, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lien's family in Dong Minh hamlet destroyed 10 pigs, weighing 600 kg; Mr. Vi Van Thanh's family in Lien Minh hamlet destroyed 11 pigs, weighing 700 kg; Mr. Lang Thuc Dong's family in Lien Minh hamlet destroyed 4 sows and 1 porker, weighing nearly 1 ton. "The 4 sows are a big asset, the main source of income for the family. But suddenly they were infected with the disease and had to be destroyed. Now the family doesn't know what to do to earn an income" - Mr. Lang Thuc Dong said sadly.

According to data from the People's Committee of Chau Thai commune, by October 5, the epidemic had spread to 3/13 hamlets of the commune, with a total of 145 pigs forced to be destroyed, with a total weight of 10,677 kg, with the local price of pigs at 100,000 VND/kg, estimated loss of over 1 billion VND.

Since the outbreak, in addition to over 40 liters of chemicals provided by the district, the commune has promoted and mobilized people to buy an additional 100 liters of chemicals and about 20 tons of lime for disinfection work.

According to Mr. Lo Minh Duc, the cause of the epidemic in Chau Thai commune may be due to traders transporting goods every day.pork of unknown originfrom other localities to the commune to sell retail to people, so the disease spread from here.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the locality has strictly banned the trading of pork in the commune. At the same time, the commune has established a steering committee for epidemic prevention and set up 3 epidemic control checkpoints on main roads.

"Currently, there are showers, the risk of the epidemic continuing to break out, because the locality currently has 3,500 pigs, most of which are raised on a small scale by the people. The commune is stepping up propaganda work, mobilizing people to regularly do a good job ofdisinfection"In the barn area, absolutely do not sell running pigs" - Mr. Lo Minh Duc said.

According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quy Hop district, as of October 5, there were 2 communes in the district with African swine fever, including Nam Son and Chau Thai, with 172 pigs destroyed, with a total weight of 12,309 kg.
