Nghe An: Song Sao Reservoir discharges floodwaters to ensure safety of reservoir and downstream areas

(Baonghean.vn) - From 4:00 p.m. on October 18, Phu Quy Irrigation Company Limited discharged floodwater from Sao River reservoir, with a total flow rate of about 50 m3/s.

Song Sao Lake is located in Nghia Lam and Nghia Dan communes, irrigating over 6,000 hectares in Thai Hoa and Nghia Dan towns. Song Sao Lake is the largest reservoir in Western Nghe An.

According to the report of Phu Quy irrigation management unit, due to continuous heavy rain in recent days, the water level of Song Sao reservoir has increased. At 4:00 p.m. on October 18, the water level of Song Sao reservoir reached 75.74 m (equivalent to 52/51 million m3water).

To ensure reservoir water regulation during the rainy season,Song Sao Lake1 spillway has been opened, discharge capacity 50 m3/s. The discharge will start at 4:00 p.m. on October 18. It is expected that the discharge will continue for the next 2 days. If the weather is complicated, the entire rain period will have to be discharged.

Mr. Hoang Tran Lam - Chairman of the Board of Directors - Phu Quy Irrigation Company Limited said: As of 9:00 a.m. this morning, October 19, the water level in the reservoir has returned to a safe level of 75 m, equivalent to 51 million m3water.

Before releasing the spillway, the irrigation unit notified the Provincial People's Committee, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, the People's Committee of Nghia Dan district, and 4 communes in the area to ensure safety for the downstream area.
