Serious road subsidence appeared on Chuoi slope (Que Phong)

(Baonghean.vn) - A subsidence crack that is more than 60m long has caused the road surface of National Highway 16 on Chuoi slope (Que Phong) to sink 25-50cm deep, posing a danger to road users.

On the evening of October 17, Mr. Hoang Manh Hung - Head of the DistrictRoad management departmentChau Kim (Nghe An) said, on Chuoi slope at Km 264+700 on National Highway 16, in Chau Kim commune,Que Phong districtA serious road subsidence has just occurred.

Through inspection, it was found that the road subsided for about 60 - 65m. The deepest point of subsidence compared to the normal road surface was about 50cm, the lowest point was about 25cm. The road surface collapsed vertically downwards, not to one side. Currently, the subsidence has not developed further, vehicles can still pass but it is very difficult.

It is known that there has been heavy rain in this area over the past few days. At the location where the crack appeared, there is underground water flowing. This may be the cause of the serious subsidence of this slope.

According to Chau Kim Road Management Department, before the road subsidence incident occurred, the unit had inspected and submitted a plan to the Vietnam Road Administration for repair. However, before it could be implemented, there was a prolonged heavy rain, causing cracks and subsidence.
