Một tuần nay, xã Châu Khê (huyện Con Cuông), phải bố trí lực lượng túc trực 24/24 ở bản Bủng Xá đề cảnh báo người dân qua lại vì tình trạng sạt lở.
For a week now, Chau Khe commune (Con Cuong) has had to arrange forces to be on duty 24/7 in Bung Xat village to warn people passing by.ìlandslidePhoto: Tien Hung
Mr. Nguyen The Anh - Vice Chairman of Chau Khe Commune People's Committee said that the crack running along the mountainside appeared on October 29, after heavy rain. Immediately after receiving the information, the commune evacuated 17 households with more than 50 people. These people are still having to stay at the houses of relatives nearby. Photo: Cong Kien
According to Nghe An Newspaper reporters, the cracks are about 2 meters deep and 1 meter wide, running in an arc shape for more than 200 meters. This crack has torn the mountainside, threatening to collapse onto the villages below at any time. Photo: Tien Hung
This area used to be a bamboo forest that people had planted for many generations. According to the estimate of the Vice Chairman of the Chau Khe Commune People's Committee, the amount of soil and rock completely separated from the mountainside is about 500,000 cubic meters. "If it continues to rain, there is a risk that it will collapse, not only sweeping away 17 houses but also the asphalt road will be swept away into the hydroelectric reservoir," said Mr. Nguyen The Anh, adding that the best solution to handle this situation is to blast this mass of soil and rock. "We have lived here peacefully for generations. We have never seen this phenomenon before," said Loc Thi Dien (62 years old), one of the households at the foot of the mountain that had to be urgently evacuated. Photo: Cong Kien
Houses are at risk of being swept away into the lake if landslides continue. Bung Xat village is stuck between two hydroelectric plants. About 8 km downstream is the Chi Khe hydroelectric dam, and about 5 km upstream is the Suoi Choang hydroelectric plant. Many people believe that the cause of the landslide is due to the hydroelectric plant storing water, combined with heavy rain... Photo: Tien Hung
Faced with the serious landslide situation, the People's Committee of Con Cuong district has submitted a document to the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and branches to establish a project to urgently relocate households. On the afternoon of November 6, Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued a document assigning departments and branches to review the proposal of Con Cuong district to advise the Provincial People's Committee. At the same time, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also assigned Con Cuong district to continue directing the People's Committee of Chau Khe commune and units to regularly inspect and monitor households living in the landslide area to promptly handle the situation to ensure absolute safety for life and property. Proactively hire consultants to survey the current situation and develop optimal solutions to handle landslides. Photo: Cong Kien
