The National Assembly has just passed a Resolution on the Election Day of the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term.

The National Assembly Standing Committee submitted to the 14th National Assembly for consideration and decision the election date of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term, under normal conditions, expected to be Sunday, May 23, 2021.

After consideration, this afternoon (November 17), National Assembly deputies voted to pass the Resolution, setting the Election Day as Sunday, May 23, 2021 as proposed by the National Assembly Standing Committee, with 465/466 deputies participating in the vote in favor (accounting for 96.47% of the total number of National Assembly deputies).

“The National Assembly Standing Committee, the National Election Council, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and relevant agencies and organizations are responsible for implementing this Resolution” – the Resolution clearly stated.

The Law on Election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies, Article 4 stipulates: "The National Assembly decides on the National Election Day for the election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies at all levels" and Article 5 stipulates: "The election day must be a Sunday and be announced at least 115 days before the election day".

Voters go to the polls to elect deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 term in Hanoi.

On June 20, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong signed and issued Directive No. 45 of the Politburo on leading the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term.

The Directive clearly states: The election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term is an important political event of the country to select and elect exemplary representatives who are worthy of representing the will, aspirations and mastery of the people in the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the new term.

In particular, the election took place in the context of the 35-year renovation process in our country having achieved great and historic achievements in all areas of life and society, but also facing many difficulties and challenges, especially the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In order for the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and the election of deputies to People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term to achieve high results, the Politburo requires Party committees and Party organizations at all levels to develop specific plans to lead and direct the successful organization of the election; ensure that the election is conducted democratically, equally, legally, safely, economically and is truly a festival for all people. Along with that, leaders must carry out personnel work well, ensuring the promotion of democracy and the Party's centralized and unified leadership in personnel work.

The Politburo firmly decided not to introduce candidates.Member of Parliament, People's Council delegates at all levels who are unworthy or unqualified, especially those who have degraded moral qualities, are corrupt, seek positions or power, flatter, are arrogant, bureaucratic, cause disunity, and negatively affect the reputation of the Party and State.

According to the Politburo, it is necessary to strive to introduce and select to elect truly representative National Assembly and People's Council deputies who are worthy of representing the will, aspirations and mastery of the people; ensure sufficient standards, sufficient quantity, and reasonable structure, in which the standards and quality of deputies are the focus, not lowering the standards for the sake of structure. In particular, strive to elect enough 500 National Assembly deputies and achieve the ratio of full-time National Assembly deputies.

The Politburo requested that the election process must clearly define what can and cannot be done in the election campaign; avoid unhealthy "campaigning"; and effectively overcome limitations and shortcomings in organizing the election of National Assembly and People's Council deputies in recent terms./.
