The case of a 5-year-old boy who died near an abandoned house in Nghe An: The defendant confessed to kidnapping for ransom
(Baonghean.vn)- A 5-year-old child died after having his mouth taped and hands tied. At the trial, the defendant claimed to have kidnapped the child to extort money.
On November 19, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Dao Ngoc Hoang (born 2003), residing in Hamlet 9, Quynh Tam Commune, Quynh Luu District, for the crime ofKilling.At the time of the crime, the defendant was under 18 years old and in 11th grade.
According to the case file, at 3:00 p.m. on June 7, Ho Tran Van D. (born in 2014) came to Hoang's house and invited him to go catch cicadas. After taking D. to catch cicadas, Hoang continued to hang out. D. asked to go with him and Hoang agreed.

Before leaving, Hoang took a snake carcass, a lemon, a roll of tape, some chips, sausages, candy... and put them in his motorbike, then drove D. to an abandoned house near Bo Bo stream, in Lang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district.
Here, Hoang took all the things in the trunk to the abandoned house and invited D. to play a blindfolded guessing game. During this process, Hoang used tape to cover the child's body and then took him to a stream, tied his hands tightly to the bushes and then returned. On the way, Hoang threw the tape roll along the road and then went to the abandoned house to collect all related items and threw them into the bushes.
At around 2:00 p.m. on June 8, Hoang returned and discovered that D. had died.
On June 9, Quynh Luu District Police summoned Hoang for questioning. There, Hoang admitted to arresting D. and led the police to the scene.
At the trial, defendant Hoang admitted to the crime. The defendant stated that the purpose of kidnapping D. was to extort money. In the presence of the victim's family, the defendant burst into tears and apologized.
For the crime of murder, the defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The panel also ordered the defendant's parents to compensate the victim's family 169 million VND.
