Continuously appearing in court for the crime of "Theft of property", but Tho still "remains familiar with the old path". At noon on March 8, 2020, Nguyen Huu Tho was driving a motorbike on Nguyen Kiem Street, Truong Thi Ward, Vinh City when he discovered Ms. Nguyen Thi B. (75 years old, residing in Truong Thi Ward) holding a blue brocade wallet, so he had the intention of robbing her.
Tho drove his motorbike close to Mrs. B. and snatched her purse. The robber ran away for 50 meters before colliding with a passerby, causing both of them to fall. At this time, the victim shouted “robbery, robbery”, so Tho abandoned his motorbike and ran away. After running for a while, Tho threw the newly stolen purse onto the street, then returned to get his motorbike to run away. However, because the motorbike was broken, Tho had to walk away, but was chased and arrested by the crowd.
The investigation agency determined that the property that Nguyen Huu Tho appropriated from the 75-year-old woman was 141 thousand VND and the wallet was worth 10 thousand VND.
For the crime of "Robbery", Nguyen Huu Tho was sentenced to 4 years in prison by the court of first instance. Tho later appealed for a reduced sentence.
At the appeal court, the defendant argued that the value of the property he stole was not large, but the court sentenced him to a heavy sentence. The defendant admitted that he had previously committed crimes due to drug addiction, but in the past 3 years he has been working and improving his character. The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, with his wife leaving him, his young children, and his elderly parents, asking for leniency.
Considering that at this trial the defendant did not present any new details compared to the first instance court, the court rejected the defendant’s appeal. Upholding the 4-year prison sentence for Nguyen Huu Tho for the crime of “Robbery”.
