US imposes sanctions on 103 Russian and Chinese companies

The US Department of Commerce has imposed sanctions on 45 Russian and 58 Chinese companies, according to a statement posted on the department's website.

The list includes entities that Washington says are cooperating with the armed forces of the two countries. Inclusion on the list means those organizations will be unable to purchase certain US goods and technology.

The list includes Rosoboronexport, Rostec Corporation, MiG Corporation, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, Tupolev, United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Dukhov All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Automation (VNIIA), Alexandrov National Research Institute of Science and Technology (NITI), Progress Space Rocket Center (SRC).

Also on the list are the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation as well as the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.

Among the sanctioned PRC companies are AECC China Gas Turbine Company, AVIC International Holdings Group, Hafei Aviation Industry and others. AECC Beijing Aeronautical University, Flight Automation Management Scientific Research Institute (FACRI), AVIC Leihua Electronic Science and Technology Research Institute (LETRI) and others are also subject to restrictions.

“The Department of Commerce recognizes the importance of leveraging partnerships with U.S. and global companies to counter these efforts,”China and Russia aim to exploit US technologyserve their destabilizing military programs," said Secretary Wilbur Ross.

A day earlier, it was reported that advisers to US President-elect Joe Biden were discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia in connection with cyber attacks on US government agencies that Washington said were linked to Moscow.
