According to documents from the investigation agency: From the beginning of December 2020, through the work of grasping the area, Nghi Loc District Police received information reflecting from a number of traders about a subject showing signs of suspicious activities.underwriteextortion of money from traders who came to buy shrimp at shrimp ponds in Khanh Hop commune, Nghi Loc district. When traders drove trucks to buy shrimp, the subject blocked their vehicles, threatened them, and demanded that they go through the subject and pay an amount of 1 million VND or more. Otherwise, the subject would not let them go.

Following the direction of the Nghi Loc District Police, the Criminal Investigation Police Team on Criminal, Economic and Drug Crimes coordinated with the police forces of related communes to conduct investigation and verification. Through screening, Nghi Loc District Police discovered that Nguyen Thanh Trung was a suspect with many suspicious signs.
At around 4:00 p.m. on December 14, at the shrimp pond area in Hop Thang hamlet, Khanh Hop commune, the working group of the Criminal Investigation Police Team on Criminal, Economic, and Drug Crimes, Nghi Loc District Police in coordination with the Police of Khanh Hop, Nghi Xa, and Nghi Thinh communes caught Nguyen Thanh Trung red-handed when he had just stopped the truck with license plate 18C - 107.65 driven by Vu Van Hoang residing in Lam Dinh hamlet, Giao Phong commune, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh to buy shrimp and extorted 6.5 million VND from this driver. In addition to the above amount of money, the authorities also seized 1 motorbike and 1 mobile phone on the spot.
At the Police Investigation Agency, Nguyen Thanh Trung initially confessed his crime.
Currently, the case is being further investigated by Nghi Loc District Police.
