Former teacher sentenced to death for 'white goods'
(Baonghean.vn) - The defendant admitted that he had worked in the education sector for many years and understood the law well, but because of money he got involved in drugs and had to receive the highest sentence under the law.
On December 28, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Lau Ba Xia (born 1974), residing in Nam Can commune (Ky Son) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.
Lau Ba Xia is a teacher at Muong Long Secondary School (Ky Son). On May 19, Xia received a phone call from a man named Nguyen Van Hoang (residing in Da Nang City) ordering 4 kg of crystal meth, 200 bags of pink meth and 2 heroin bars. Xia agreed and told Hoang that he would have the "goods" in a few days.
In the evening of the same day, Xia called Lau Giong Xa (Lao nationality) to order the above drugs. Xa reported that he only had 2 kg of crystal meth, 97 bags of pink meth, and 2 heroin bars. Xia agreed to buy for 840 million VND.

Then, Xia reported back to Hoang and offered 930 million VND. Hoang agreed and arranged to receive the "goods" at a motel in Chieu Luu commune (Ky Son).
On the afternoon of May 22, Xia received drugs from Xa as previously agreed. Afterwards, Xia brought all the drugs to a motel in Chieu Luu commune that Hoang had booked in advance. That same evening, while Xia was in the motel waiting for the drug buyer to arrive, the police raided and caught him red-handed with more than 4.5 kg of various drugs.
At the trial, defendant Xia admitted to drug trafficking, but said he only had a secondary role in the case.

With an exceptionally large amount of drugs, the People's Court sentenced Lau Ba Xia todeath penaltyfor the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
