Putting Vietnam on the world's telecommunications equipment manufacturing map
(Baonghean.vn) - According to Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, the Information and Communications Industry (ICT) needs to carry out a larger mission, which is to put Vietnam on the telecommunications equipment manufacturing map in 5-10 years.
On the morning of January 12, the Ministry of Information and Communications held a national online conference to summarize the work in 2020 and deploy tasks in 2021.
Attending the conference were Politburo members: Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Prime Minister; Vo Van Thuong, Head of the Central Propaganda Department.
Party Central Committee members: Vu Duc Dam - Deputy Prime Minister; Nguyen Manh Hung - Minister of Information and Communications and leaders of central ministries, departments and branches.

Pioneering digital technology, digital transformation
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that the movement from the real world to the digital world is the greatest movement in human history.
In this transition, great challenges and great opportunities always go hand in hand. Digital technology, digital transformation and media play a particularly important role in this transformation. This is also a rare opportunity for the information and communication industry to reposition itself, clearly see the challenges and identify the right new space that plays a decisive role for all developments.
According to the report of the Ministry of Information and Communications, in 2020, the industryInformation and Communicationcontinues to have strong development steps. The whole industry has nearly 60,000 units, over 1 million cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers working day and night, contributing to the development of the country.

During the 2016-2020 period, the IT&T sector achieved many results. That is, postal services increased from 57th to 49th; ICT increased from 108th to 77th; e-Government increased from 89th to 86th. In particular, network safety and security increased dramatically from 100th to 50th. The total number of employees participating in the ICT industry increased from 780,000 to more than 1 million people.
The postal sector has always had high growth, with average revenue growth of over 30% per year. In 2020, it successfully tested commercial 5G telecommunications network and services.
Vietnam is among the top 10 countries with the highest deployment of new generation Internet addresses globally. Vietnam's telecommunications ranking has improved from 108th in 2018 to 77th in 2020.
In particular, in the period of 2016-2019, Vietnam has risen to become one of the world's leading countries in the production of hardware, electronics and telecommunications; ranked 2nd in the production of phones and components, 10th in the world in the production of electronics and components, surpassing many powerful countries such as the United States, Germany, India, Brazil, Singapore. These are also the 2 items that occupy the 1st and 3rd positions in the list of 10 key export products of Vietnam, making Vietnam's ICT industry the largest export and trade surplus industry of the economy.
2020 marks the first time Vietnam officially announced the orientation for developing digital technology enterprises, the Make in Vietnam strategy. The number of digital technology enterprises increased by 28%, reaching nearly 60,000 enterprises.
The Information and Communications sector has also affirmed the role, position and importance of the press in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Publishing, printing and distribution activities continue to develop and become systematic...
At the conference, the discussions focused on the following contents: Digital transformation, building e-government; Press arrangement and planning; printing and distribution.
Make new progress
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam acknowledged and highly appreciated the results of the information and communications industry in 2020. In implementing the tasks in the coming time, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam suggested that the information and communications industry needs to arouse creativity, determination and aspiration, and more importantly, point out ways to innovate more strongly, pioneer digital transformation, and digital technology continues to create new progress, developing the information technology industry.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the information and communications industry needs to carry out a larger mission, which is to continue to create strong breakthroughs, so that in 5-10 years, Vietnam will be on the map of telecommunications equipment production.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam called for the consensus and response of central ministries, branches, and local authorities to promote the thorough application of IT, to be more transparent, closer to the people so that the Government as well as authorities at all levels can both manage and serve the people better.

At the conference, the Small and Medium Enterprise Support Program was announced.digital transformationAnnouncing a platform to support digital transformation for press agencies. Launching a portal to receive feedback and publish fake news and launching a hotline to receive feedback on fake news 18008108.
Some specific results of the Information and Communications industry in 2020:
- Total revenue of the Information and Communications industry in 2020 reached 3,063,606 billion VND.
- Total state budget contribution of the entire Information and Communications sector in 2020 reached 105,876 billion VND.
- Postal revenue in 2020 reached 56,500 billion VND.
- The rate of households connecting to the Internet reached 75% last year.
- Vietnam's mobile broadband subscriptions per 100 people compared to the world's reached 76.42%.
- 100% of ministries, branches and localities have integrated data sharing platforms.
- Total ICT technology revenue in 2020 reached 120,607 billion USD.
- In 2020, there were 90.5 million social media users in Vietnam.
- The rate of level 4 online public services nationwide reached 30.86%.
- The rate of level 3 and 4 public services with online records nationwide reached 38.38%.
