Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine recommends: In the condition of prolonged cold weather, in addition to bringing livestock home to confine and covering barns, people need to proactively source food for buffaloes and cows in the winter.
For green fodder, it is necessary to plant grass, sow corn thickly, and plant forage crops on unused land to provide green fodder for livestock during the cold and rainy months at the end of the year.
Use agricultural by-products as food in winter such as straw, sugarcane leaves, cassava residue, pineapple residue, wild banana tree residue... mixed with bran and salt (2 - 3% salt) for cattle to eat.
To store food, ferment the food by chopping and drying the ingredients, then mix them in the following ratio: 100kg of grass + 5-10kg of corn flour or rice bran + 0.5kg of salt, then mix the ingredients. After fermenting in a bag or pit for 1 month, it can be taken out to feed the livestock.
Prepare concentrated feed (corn flour, cassava, rice bran...), minerals, and vitamins to provide enough for livestock during cold days.
