Man with 3 criminal records goes to jail again for buying guns, bullets and drugs

On January 15, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Tho Hieu (born 1981), residing in Quan Bau ward, Vinh city, for the crimes of "Illegal possession of narcotics" and "Possession of military weapons".
This is the fourth time Hieu has appeared in court. Previously, Hieu was sentenced to 15 months in prison three times for theft and breach of trust; in 2003 and 2012, Hieu was sentenced to 7 years in prison twice for illegal drug trafficking. Not long after his release from prison, Hieu reoffended.

According to the case file, in September 2019, Hieu went to work at the Bo Y border gate area, Kon Tum province, so he bought a military gun NP34, 34 bullets for 11 million VND from a young man to use when necessary.
3 months later, also in the same area, Hieu bought from an unknown young man 2 packages of Ketamine, 3 packages of pink pills, 1 package of ecstasy, 1 package of crystal meth for 9 million VND with the intention of taking them home to use.
On the afternoon of May 16, 2020, Hieu drove an unknown passenger from Dong Hop commune, Quy Hop district to Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan district to collect 800,000 VND in fare.
When arriving at Nghia Lien commune, the young man told Hieu to stop the car to go to the restroom. After waiting for 15 minutes but not seeing any sign of him, Hieu drove back to Vinh city. On the way, Hieu checked the plastic bag the passenger left behind and discovered that there were many pills of drugs inside, so he hid them in the trunk of the car.
The next afternoon, when Nguyen Tho Hieu was carrying a plastic bag containing more than 622 grams of drugs to the lobby of Phu My Trung apartment building, he was arrested by the police.
On the same day, the police conducted an emergency search of Trung's residence and discovered many packages.drugand 1 gun, many bullets. The investigation agency determined that Nguyen Tho Hieu must bear criminal responsibility for possessing more than 784 grams of drugs.
At the trial, regarding the amount of drugs the police confiscated from the house, the defendant said he bought them because he was addicted. As for the drugs in the car, Hieu said they belonged to the person who rented the car. “Because of greed, the defendant took them to sell,” Hieu said.
Considering the case comprehensively, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Tho Hieu to life in prison for illegal possession of narcotics and 3 years in prison for illegal possession of narcotics.weaponsmilitary. Total penalty, the defendant must serve a life sentence.
