The American magazine The National Interest has outlined why the United States needs the "Pantsir-S1" air defense missile-gun system.

Earlier, The Times reported that the US Air Force was able to remove the Pantsir air defense missile system from Libya last summer. A C-17 Globemaster landed at Zuwara airport west of Tripoli, an air defense system was transferred there, and the aircraft flew to Ramstein air base in Germany.

“The fact that the US brought Pantsir back shows that some useful information can be obtained from this complex,” the information reads.

The transfer of the weapon complex from Libya was explained by the fact that it should not “fall into the wrong hands”, which could be used to destroy civilian aircraft. However, according to the author, the possession of an intact and working “Pantsir” is a great success for those who are training, because this is not a simulation, but the technology of a real opponent. This means that the US military’s seizure of the weapon cannot be explained by the desire to eliminate the threat from “Pantsir”, because it would be much easier to destroy it on the spot.
