(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of February 5, Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee visited and wished a Happy New Year to a number of units performing the tasks of fire prevention, fire fighting, rescue, and natural disaster prevention in the province.

Although over the past year, the situationnatural disaster, storms and floods have been very complicated with more than 30 storms and whirlwinds; 9 heat waves and 3 natural disasters causing great damage, but thanks to the timely attention and direction of the Provincial People's Committee and departments, branches, and sectors, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control has made many efforts, overcome all difficulties, contributing significantly to minimizing damage and soon stabilizing people's lives.

However, in the past year, natural disasters have also caused many serious consequences, leaving 17 people dead and missing, causing economic and social damage of more than 1,300 billion VND.

With many modern equipment, in 2020, this unit organized the dispatch of 15 command vehicles, 277 fire trucks and 2,419 officers and soldiers, promptly extinguishing fires and accidents, minimizing the risk of fire and explosion. In particular, the unit coordinated to ensure fire safety for 21 political and cultural events held in the area.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu also visited the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team on the River, located in Ben Thuy Ward, Vinh City. Although fire prevention and rescue on the river is very difficult, different from rescue on land, in the past year, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team on the River has dispatched 80 vehicles and boats, rescued 15 people in distress, recovered 25 bodies of drowned people; at the same time, mobilized forces to support Ha Tinh province during the historic flood in October 2020.

Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu assessed that rescue on land is difficult, rescue on the river is even more difficult. However, the fire prevention and rescue force on the river has made constant efforts to minimize damage to the people.
