Nghe An: Youth Union members go to the fields to catch and destroy golden apple snails
(Baonghean.vn) - Implementing the program "Green Sunday", youth union members across Nghe An province simultaneously went to the fields to help farmers eradicate golden apple snails and protect spring rice.
This year, the province planted 90,700 hectares of spring rice, of which 31,600 hectares were sown. Currently, the weather is gradually warming up, the rice plants have begun to grow, but along with that is the widespread destruction of golden apple snails.
In many localities, golden apple snails appear at very high density, biting the rice stems and roots, causing many rice fields to die. After transplanting, the spring rice fields were damaged by golden apple snails at a high density of up to 387 hectares.

Implementing the program "Green Sunday", on March 7, youth union members throughout the province simultaneously went to the fields to help farmers destroy golden apple snails.
In Do Luong district, this year's spring rice crop was planted on nearly 8,500 hectares, of which almost all were sown directly, with 8,400 hectares. Mr. Tran Ngoc Thuan - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Do Luong district said: After planting, many rice areas were damaged by golden apple snails. Although people sprayed pesticides, the golden apple snails lived persistently and reproduced very quickly. Therefore, people only knew how to use manual methods to catch golden apple snails to feed geese and ducks.

Although we have caught more than 1 ton of golden apple snails, the area of rice damaged by golden apple snails in Thanh Chuong district is still very large. In the coming time, we will continue to launch "Green Sunday", together with the youth union members to eradicate golden apple snails in other fields, minimizing damage to farmers.
