(Baonghean.vn) - The 500m2 fish pond that Mr. Hoang's family raised for nearly a year suddenly died en masse. In addition to the dead fish floating on the pond's surface, a pesticide bag and a half-empty weed killer bottle were also found floating on the pond's surface.

On the morning of March 17, Mr. Dao Van Hoang (born in 1988), residing in Luu Tho hamlet, Luu Son commune, Do Luong district, was still shocked when his fish pond died en masse yesterday.

Dao Van Hoang said that at noon on March 15, he went to visit the fish pond and discovered that the fish in the pond kept crashing into the shore. In the afternoon of the same day, he saw fish floating up sporadically. By March 16, the fish were floating dead, covering the surface of the pond.

Immediately after seeing the fish showing unusual signs, Mr. Hoang observed and discovered a shell in the fish pond.pesticideBPALATOX 50EC brand and a plastic bottle of BPSACO 500EC herbicide. The plastic bottle of the herbicide has not been completely removed, there is still half inside.

Mr. Dao Van Hoang added: "The family's fish pond is 500m wide.2, he bought fry including carp, silver carp, grass carp, of which grass carp accounted for 80%, released from the second lunar month of 2020, until now it has been nearly 1 year. The weight of each fish is estimated at 2kg. Last year the fish were raised in another pond, each fish reached 1.5kg and was ready to be harvested but was washed away by flood, this year the fish in this pond died again...".

The fish in the pond died, Mr. Hoang had to use a pump to suck up the water, scoop up the fish and bury them. The amount of fish scooped up was enough to fill 19 18-liter plastic buckets. The estimated damage was over 10 million VND.

On the morning of March 17, the water at the bottom of the pond was still covered with pesticide scum.

Mr. Hoang has a pitiful situation. In 2018, while working as a worker in a stone processing factory, a machine severed his left arm. He quit his job at the factory, returned to his hometown to raise fish and opened a small kiosk selling agricultural supplies.

The incident of fish dying in the pond made Mr. Hoang bewildered. Mr. Hoang confided: “I live without hatred for anyone, nor do I cause conflict with anyone. This year, I have sold fertilizer, phosphate, and nitrogen and people have always come to buy and support me. Could it be that someone, out of jealousy, put pesticides in my fish pond…”.

Immediately after the incident, at 4:00 p.m. on March 15, the police of Luu Son commune, Do Luong district also came to collect samples of the dead fish and conduct an investigation to clarify the cause of the incident.
