Around March 2020, while looking for medicine to treat liver disease, Thach met a man named A Thin. The two exchanged phone numbers.

On July 26, 2020, Thach called A Thin to meet in Que Phong district to buy drugs for pain relief. At this time, A Thin introduced Thach to a man named A Ni to buy drugs.

The next day, Thach went to Nghe An to discuss buying 30 million VND worth of drugs from A Ni. On the evening of July 29, A Ni sold Thach 30 packages of pink drugs (589.13 grams) and 1 package of heroin (2.87 grams).

When he returned to the hotel, Thach took out two types of drugs to use. He found that heroin relieved pain while the pink drug made the pain worse, so he called A Ni to return the pink drug.

The next afternoon, Thach brought the pink drug to return to A Ni and was arrested by Nghe An police.

At the trial, the defendant stated that he bought the drugs to relieve the pain of his illness and not for the purpose of selling them. He presented his illness and poor health to ask the court to reduce his sentence.

Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Ngoc Thach to 16 years in prison for illegal possession of drugs.

As for the drug dealer, because Thach did not know the specific address, there was no basis for handling.
