Emergency treatment due to illegal cosmetic surgery and fake breast augmentation.
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, the plastic surgery unit of Nghe An Friendship General Hospital has continuously received patients suffering from inflammation and necrosis after rhinoplasty and breast augmentation at illegal cosmetic facilities. Some even had to be hospitalized overnight for emergency treatment.
Money lost, trouble gained.
“My nose was very sore after the procedure, but the shop owner told me it would only hurt for the first few days and advised me to take painkillers to get better; three days after returning home, my nose started to swell and turn red, and a foul-smelling mucus started to ooze out,” recalled Ms. Hoang Thi T. (residing in Nghi Loc, Nghe An).

According to Ms. T's account, she was introduced to a beauty spa in Vinh City by an acquaintance to get a nose job. Upon arriving at the spa, Ms. T noticed the facilities were rudimentary and considered stopping. However, her acquaintance encouraged her, saying that many people who had undergone nose surgery there had beautiful results and the procedure was inexpensive. The enthusiastic and friendly owner, along with flattering words, convinced Ms. T to proceed with the nose surgery. This resulted in necrosis of the nasal septum.
Ms. T. was admitted to the emergency department of the Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics Unit at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital. After necessary tests, the doctors performed surgery to remove necrotic tissue, the nasal implant material, and cleaned the area, administering antibiotics according to the antibiotic sensitivity test. Ms. T.'s health is now stable.
“The surgeon was not a doctor, the operating room was not sterile, and the material used for the nose augmentation was too high, causing pressure on the soft tissue of the nose. These are some of the reasons leading to the complications experienced by patient T,” said Dr. Phan Van Dai, who directly treated Ms. T.

Next to Ms. T.'s treatment bed was Ms. Pham Thi Ng. (residing in Hung Binh ward, Vinh City), a victim of breast filler injections who had just been hospitalized.
Ms. Ng. confided that, being someone working in the beauty industry and knowledgeable about filler injections, she chose a spa in Saigon to have the procedure done because she was embarrassed and didn't want anyone to know. “I had filler injected from a Thai brand because it was cheaper than other brands. Because of that, there was no barcode to check the quality of the filler. They just injected as much as they wanted, stopping when my breasts felt full, without any specific measuring tools. The cost of the filler injections for my breasts was 25 million VND.”
Ten days after the injection, Ms. Ng.'s breasts began to harden, swell, and ooze pus continuously. She also developed a fever and had to be rushed to the hospital that night. "If it had been delayed any longer, I would have lost my life!" Ms. Ng. recalled, still shaken.
It's important to know how to choose wisely who to entrust your valuable assets to.
With the rapid development of the cosmetic surgery market, many cosmetic clinics have sprung up without qualified doctors or professional licenses; nurses are untrained, and equipment is rudimentary... yet they perform many high-skill surgeries such as eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, etc., leading to many dangerous complications affecting people's health, psychology, and lives.
Regarding this issue, Dr. Phan Ngoc Khoa, Head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit at Nghe An General Hospital, said that recently, the unit has received many cases of complications, ranging from mild to severe, due to surgeries performed at unlicensed cosmetic facilities.

"Many beauty clinics exploit customers' psychology, advertising quick, painless, and low-cost cosmetic procedures with numerous discounts and promotions. But in reality, even the smallest techniques like eyelid surgery are still considered surgical procedures. If the doctor lacks expertise...""A lack of understanding of anatomical structure can easily lead to serious complications."
Furthermore, the cost of genuine, traceable filler injections is usually high. Meanwhile, at cosmetic clinics, this price is significantly reduced, but no one knows the quality of these filler injections. Especially liquid silicone, which has long been banned,” Dr. Khoa said.
To minimize the risk of complications and the unfortunate situation of "losing money and suffering harm" like the cases above, Dr. Khoa advises people to choose reputable and trustworthy cosmetic clinics to entrust their beauty to.
